Working at Roehampton: Opcare have been providing the orthotic service in Roehampton since 2008 and have recently been re-awarded the contract, this role is an excellent opportunity to have a key influence within the service to advance and improve the delivery of service. The Orthotic Department is based in the Douglas Bader Rehabilitation Centre within Queen Marys Hospital, where we provide inpatient, outpatient and community orthotic care for a wide variety of patients. There is a complex mix of MDTs and extended practice clinics which provides a great opportunity to be exposed to interesting and varied caseloads. St Georges University NHS Foundation trust provide specialist services for South-West London including Spina Bifida, Ponseti and spasticity, all of which the orthotic team are an important part of. Onsite at Queen Marys hospital we work closely with the gait lab team, spasticity specialist physiotherapists, orthopaedic surgeons and consultant neurologists for surgical planning pathways for upper and lower limbs. There is a large on-site workshop with skilled staff providing a collaborative working approach to device design and manufacture. Job Summary: We are currently seeking an experienced Orthotist who is looking for an opportunity to develop their career and be a part of our large and dynamic team in Roehampton. This role is a one year fixed term post to provide maternity cover, with the potential of extending the contract. The role will involve working with a complex clinical case load and therefore clinical expertise in at least one area of orthotics is essential, but there will also be opportunities to develop into different specialities. The role holder will be instrumental in working with the orthotic team, consisting of clinicians, technicians, and wider NHS MDT to advance and improve the delivery of the service. The role holder will be an integral member of the senior clinical team and will provide mentoring support to less experienced orthotists, graduates, and students. There are a wide variety of MDTs and extended practice clinics including, but not limited to: In and out-patient clinics for neurological conditions Paediatrics Scoliosis bracing Diabetic foot Foot and ankle Theatre casts and removal Gait lab and surgical planning Key Responsibilities: Some of the key responsibilities the role holder will have responsibility for: Ensure the delivery of high-quality care for all patients and the smooth running of the service. Work closely with multi-disciplinary teams (MDTs) across Queen Marys and St Georges Hospitals. To have an area of specialist orthotic practise and interest. Share your knowledge and experience with junior colleagues and offer mentorship to graduates. Help coordinate and contribute to in-service training sessions. The role holder will be a specialised Orthotist that can support development and service improvements for the betterment of patients in Queen Marys and St Georges Hospitals. The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic and busy team, and be supported with local, regional, and national training to develop their clinical skills to support the service. Qualifications: Either: BSc Prosthetics and Orthotics Certified Orthotist HND Orthotics Must also be fully HCPC Registered.
