Southern Cross Pre-school has been running for over 40 years within our community. We are passionate about supporting families and their children. We have long standing staff that work together to create a lovely happy atmosphere for all. We have a nurturing ethos where the children are supported to become more independent, confident, and learn the skills to form good friendships.

You will be working with a well-established team, located in Portslade. We have two large halls with lots of space and a safe enclosed home from home garden. We value our local community and promote equality and diversity so we can form strong partnerships with all families.

The successful candidate will have good communication skills, work well in a team, understand child development, be able to assess a child and support their learning, so children can reach their full potential.
They will have the ability to adapt to children’s needs and encourage their independence.
Have a good understanding of how to support children's personal, social and emotional skills.
They will have patience, empathy, and a genuine love for working with children.
The ability to work independently.
They will be reliable and flexible.
Have a fun personality that is confident and friendly.
A knowledge of relevant regulations and legislation, such as EYFS, Safeguarding and Ofsted regulations.

Duties will include –
Follow the pre-schools values and ethos
Provide high-quality care to children aged 2 – 5 years
Support children's development as they learn through play and as they explore the environment
Provide positive staff interactions that promote curiosity and support their learning.
Help create a nurturing, stimulating environment.
Assisting the team to plan, prepare and review activities.
Observe and assess children's development, identifying any areas of concern.
Collaborate with parents and other staff members to support children's individual needs.
Ensure the setting is clean, safe, and well-maintained at all times.
Follow our health and safety policies and procedures to ensure the well-being of all children.

Qualifications:
Minimum Level 2, 3 or above.
Previous experience working in a nursery or childcare setting.
Experience in working with children with SEND preferable.

Hours:
This role will be contracted for 16 hours per week term time only. However, there is potential to work additional hours as and when needed. The exact hours have not yet been confirmed as we don’t want to rule out the perfect candidate. We understand that everyone has lifestyle and family commitments, so we are willing to negotiate exact start and finish times for the right person. The hours will be between 8.45 – 4.00 Monday to Friday.

Safeguarding is at the heart of everything; therefore, the role is subject to an enhanced DBS check and relevant references.
