An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated nurse to join the team in the role of Band 6 sister/charge nurse within the Ambulatory emergency care/ Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) based at Northwick park Hospital.

The ambulatory Emergency Care Unit or Medical SDEC has been open since 2012 and currently sees 50-60 patients per day. Our service aims to provide same day emergency care for those patients attending with undifferentiated medical conditions thereby reducing hospital admissions and reducing the pressure on the Emergency Department.

We are looking to recruit a nurse who is keen to develop their skills , knowledge and experience in acute medical nursing. You will need to work well within the team and display good communication and interpersonal skills. The post will give you the opportunity to develop your leadership and management skills which are essential for this role.

The post holder will work as a team member assuming responsibility for the assessment of nursing needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of effective programmes of care, maintaining and promoting standards. They will provide supervision to new and junior colleagues, and it will support the multidisciplinary teams and management teams. The post will involve coordinating the unit, in the absence of the person with continuing responsibility, directly assisting on the provision of a high quality clinical and organisational service. This role will also involve planning the admission, discharge, and appropriate referral of patients to the unit. Be familiar and comply with Policies and Procedures. Support the senior team in improving services and be a positive champion for any change proposed. Evaluate the effectiveness of nursing care. To participate in audits to check and counter check the effectiveness of existing pathways policies and procedures being enforced or done in the department to ensure patient safety. Participate in the Clinical Governance of the department and Trust. Contribute to the Trust-wide nursing agenda and ensure all accidents, incidents and complains are reported and assist in the investigation of the same. Post holder is expected to contribute to department meetings. Act as a positive role model to support recruitment and retention of staff and participate in the recruitment of staff. Work within local protocols and national guidelines
