We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the Biochemistry team to provide an efficient and high quality diagnostic service to our patients.
This is a permanent full-time vacancy of 37.5 hours per week for a Healthcare Science Associate Practitioner in the York Biochemistry Department. The post holder will be expected to work alternate weeks of day (8:45 – 5:15) and late (12.30-9pm) shifts.
As a Healthcare Science Associate Practitioner, you will be responsible for the preparation and analysis of patient samples in the Biochemistry Department using a range of scientific and technical procedures.
The Biochemistry Department is fully equipped with the Roche Cobas 8100 pre analytic system which is tracked to the Roche Cobas 8000 analytical lines, TOSOH G11s, HMJACK analyser and protein analysis using the Sebia Capillarys and Hydrogel system.
Candidates should hold a foundation degree level or equivalent in a science based subject. You must have excellent communication skills, be able to follow written instructions, have good attention to detail, be able to use your own initiative when working alone and have good IT skills.
We are a UKAS accredited laboratory and also an IBMS training laboratory. The department is fully committed to continued professional and personal development and will support the successful applicant in achieving their full potential.
• The analysis of faecal samples for FIT on the HM-JACKarc analyser
• Preparation of faecal samples for faecal calprotectin and faecal elastase analysis on the Roche 8000.
• Use of the Roche 8100 pre-analytical system
• To carry out maintenance and calibration of equipment as appropriate.
• To follow quality control procedures as set out in the departmental procedures.
• Work without direct supervision and following departmental standard operating procedures
• To provide a high quality and timely service
• To report any problems to the senior Biomedical Scientist
• Data input of patient details and results into the Laboratory Information system.
• To plan and prioritise your individual workload
