The role

Trainee School Business Managers (2x)
Salary from £28,224 - £36,936 per annum
Fixed Term (2 years)
Full Time (36 hours)

Do you have a degree in business studies, finance, HR, or experience working in a varied office administration or finance role? As a School Business Manager, your role is essential to the successful “behind the scenes” running of the school, including managing important non curriculum school functions such as finance, procurement, purchasing, marketing, HR, and facilities management. Can you help staff to create a nurturing school environment where children can thrive whilst meeting the Council’s safeguarding responsibilities?

About the role:

Training: You will complete a full induction and training programme undertaking the Level 4 School Business Professional qualification, recognised by the Institute of School Business Professionals (www.isbl.org.uk). You will have protected time to complete the qualification during your working hours.

Regulatory Compliance: You need to demonstrate a good understanding of the role of local authorities in schools, ensuring strict adherence to safeguarding practices.

Finance: As part of the Schools Financial Services Team, you will have experience of undertaking general accountancy and book-keeping duties with an understanding of transactions and accurate record keeping.

Operations: Reporting to the Senior Management Team, you will ensure the smooth running of the day-to-day operations of school, including procurement, purchasing, marketing, HR and facilities management.

Stakeholder Management: You will have excellent customer service skills and be adept at developing effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels including senior managers. You will be working with and supported by Senior Financial Advisers and other specialist advisers within the Council such as HR, ICT, Procurement Teams, and School Business Managers.

Leadership: Understanding the key factors in the Council’s Equal Opportunities policy, you will lead staff with confidence providing them with the tools to work effectively. You will lead by example with the ability to work under pressure, prioritise and meet deadlines whilst demonstrating good organisation and administrative skills.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • You lived in the UK for the last 3 years (due to the funding rules for the qualification).
  • You have a relevant degree such as business studies, finance, HR and / or
  • Experience working in a varied office administration or finance role.
  • You are highly motivated, organised, flexible, adaptable and solution focused.
  • Have intermediate level of ICT and communication skills to work with a range of professionals.
  • Ability to travel around the borough of Wandsworth.
