About the Role

Base Location: Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, or any of our Hydro sites in Scotland.

As Director of Hydro, you'll be a member of the SSE Renewables Executive Committee. You'll share responsibility for developing strategy, agreeing progress of large capital projects from early-stage development through to commercial operation, and driving performance across the business to ensure future success.

You'll oversee integrated technology harnessing performance, strategy, and culture for assets in the UK in alignment with broader SSE objectives. Your remit includes the origination, development, construction, delivery, and operation of assets. You'll also manage P&L whilst contributing significantly to Renewables EBIT.

Your key accountabilities will include:

- Sign off on multi-million-pound devex and capex projects and driving performance across the SSER portfolio to optimise commercial contribution.

- Delivery of a portfolio of new Hydro projects, including pumped storage, from securing land and consents to financial close safely and in line with LCP frameworks.

- Asset management of our Hydro fleet including safe and commercial operations, maintenance, development of asset systems and the Hydro Operations Centre and liaison with Energy Management on long term hedging decisions.

- Overseeing development and construction of Coire Glas, the first large scale pumped storage project in the UK for over 40 years.

- Shaping and aligning the teams of circa 300 staff, contractors and specialist consultants working within the technology. Actively developing and leading a performance culture ensuring objectives are met and motivating teams to improve processes, innovate, and develop capability.

- Continuing to improve and maintain high levels of engagement and a diverse and inclusive culture across our locations.

- Operational Safety, Health and Wellbeing performance and embedding a safety first culture that constructively challenges and praises appropriate behaviours.

- Commercially focused delivery, ensuring that existing and future investments are fully optimised to deliver value.

What do I need?

We would love you to have:

- Deep understanding of the renewables industry, including an understanding of Hydro operation and risks

- Experience of working in or supporting high value, complex capital projects including deep understanding of the commercial value drivers of operational services.

- Strong people leadership skills and significant experience in leading teams, projects, and programmes.

- Experience in commercial negotiations and excellent stakeholder management skills

- A growth mindset, with experience in leading change programme, and empowering the generation of innovative ideas and opportunities.
