Aim: To work well within a team to provide a wide range of quality health & personal care services to patients within the practice population in a professional, efficient & courteous manner to meet the individuals needs. Purpose of Role: Use of evidence based practice to provide general Practice Nursing duties within General Practice. To promote a healthy lifestyle & participate in National Immunisation & Screening programmes for patients. To provide evidence based high quality wound care for patients within General Practice. To carry out all duties in accordance with the NMC code of professional conduct and with regard to local & national policies, guidelines & protocols. 1) CLINICAL a) Undertake clinical duties, with relevant training, in some or all of these areas Cervical Cytology ECG Spirometry NHS Health Checks Post Natal Clinics Wound Care Phlebotomy Ear Care Childhood Immunisation & Travel Vaccination Long Term Condition Clinics Family Planning Advice Hypertension Monitoring b) To actively encourage & facilitate lifestyle choices for patients by providing health promotion during routine screening procedures, i.e. cervical cytology, over 75yr check, well woman/men checks, chronic disease management. c) Use analytical & judgemental skills to assess, plan, implement & evaluate clinical packages of care in collaboration with the patient & other health & social care professionals. d) Undertake clinical procedures with awareness for potential hazards, risks & infection control policies. e) Have an understanding & work within Patient Group Directions to administer medication where appropriate. 2) COMMUNICATION To communicate effectively using a variety of communication skills; verbal & non verbal, written & electronic, with a variety of patients, client groups, individuals & organisations within & external to the NHS To use effective communication skills with a diverse patient & relative group, using negotiation & persuasive skills to motivate. The ability to concentrate for long periods of time with frequent interruptions and unpredictable workload & occasional distressing or emotional consultations. To keep accurate & up-to-date records of all consultations in accordance with practice & NMC guidelines.
