A Vacancy at Liverpool Women's NHS Foundation Trust.
The post is secondary to unit and service expansion and to support the existing team of obstetricians and maternal medicine consultants who provide specialised maternal medicine antenatal clinics, intrapartum and postnatal care. LWHFT currently provides services to women across Cheshire, Merseyside, and North Wales.
Liverpool Women’s Hospital is one of three Maternal Medicine Centres (MMC) within the North West Maternal Medicine Network along with St Mary’s Hospital Saint Mary’s Hospital (Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust) and Royal Preston Hospital (Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust).
The job plan will be negotiated following successful appointment to the post, but would include maternal medicine and high-risk pregnancy general antenatal clinics, Delivery Suite, Maternity Assessment Unit, elective caesarean section list and Maternity Base (antenatal/postnatal) ward rounds. A standard job plan consists of 7.5 DCC PA, 1.5 SPA and 1 PA for additional specified roles.
This post will have approximately 1 day a month on the Delivery Suite (08.30-20.30 hours). This also covers activities on the Midwife Led Unit and the Maternity Assessment Unit (at times when there is no dedicated consultant cover). A monthly elective caesarean section list is also included.
The obstetric service provides 108.5 hours resident consultant Delivery Suite cover (08.30-00.00 hours, 7 days a week), with the vision of providing 24/7 resident cover in the next 1-2 years.
Consultant of the week / Ward round rota (Monday to Friday 09.00-15.00 hours), which involves reviewing all antenatal women and selected high risk postnatal women admitted to the maternity base, processing consultant antenatal clinic referrals, and providing flexible escalation support only, to the Maternity Assessment Unit depending on the safety needs of the service.
The ‘Consultant of the Week’ also takes part in incident reviews, attends the ‘Term Admissions’ meeting on a Thursday 08.15-09.00 hours, and reviews pregnant women admitted to LUHFT for non-obstetric reasons. Other clinical commitments will be cancelled during this week
‘Antenatal Weekend Consultant’ rota providing separate cover on a Saturday and Sunday between 9am – 12pm, which involves reviewing all antenatal women and selected high risk postnatal women admitted to maternity base and providing flexible escalation support only, to the Maternity Assessment Unit depending on the safety needs of the service
