This is an exciting opportunity to set-up and manage a six bedded Children’s home in a beautiful property / location in Yelverton, with an established and well-respected organisation supporting you every step of the way.
New Direction Support are a prestigious organisation in the Southwest, and are particularly well known for supporting people with complex needs to improve quality of life and quality of sleep, and we are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced person who will be able to make a difference to the lives of children and young adults, with a particular focus on improving the often challenging transition into adulthood.
Responsibilities (this list is not exhaustive):
Registering with Ofsted and ensuring the home meets all relevant regulatory standards
Implementing the PERMAH model to improve children’s quality of life in areas such as engagement, relationships, meaning, achievements and health
Ensuring the physical and emotional welfare of young people accessing the service, using models such as PACE to support young people development and growth in a safe and nurturing environment
Embedding positive behaviour support practices within the home
Ensuring that each young person has clear and individualised support plans, and that all reasonable steps are taken to include the young person in the creation and updating of these plans
Making sure that each young person has a clear plan for their transition into adulthood, that is enacted in a timely manner
Fostering a positive and responsive culture around the application of safeguarding principles and practices
Providing trauma responsive support to people with complex needs
Working in partnership with relevant professionals to ensure the best outcomes for young people using the service
Supporting educational development of young people and a particular focus on increasing independence and autonomy
Promoting effective communication both with young people and employees
Coaching, supervising and developing support staff, with a focus on creating a capable environment
Promoting a positive work culture within the team
Managing day to day operations and ensuring compliance with regulatory responsibilities and the organisation’s policies
Managing day to day operations in areas that include (but are not limited to) quality assurance, recruitment, training, budgeting, health & safety and managing staff
Sourcing / creating, updating and maintaining the home’s location assessment, policies & procedures, statement of purpose and children’s guide
Communicating with senior management team
Requirements:
Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in residential care of children within the last 5 years (Ofsted registered service)
Minimum 1 year in a supervisory or managerial role in social care
Hold (or be willing to work towards) Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services (Children and Young People’s Residential Management Pathway)
NVQ Level 3 in Residential Childcare
Full UK Driving Licence and use of vehicle for business purpose
Fully confident with IT / technology
Must be over the age of 21
Ability to adapt and work effectively under pressure
A calm, logical and support approach to working with children and young people who have experienced significant trauma
An understanding of relevant legislation and regulatory requirements and how these are practiced within a residential setting
