About us

Would you like to work in a busy library environment in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames?

Richmond upon Thames operates a high performing public library service which is very well regarded within the community.

The role of a Library Supervisor is to ensure the effective delivery of library services to the public, ensuring a high level of customer service by carrying out a range of frontline and administrative duties to facilitate the libraries’ day to day operation.

Modern public libraries are busy and stimulating spaces, open to all members of the community and Library Supervisors need to be resilient, confident and resourceful in order to deal with the often complex and challenging issues that occur as a result.

About the role

Supervision- You will oversee the daily workflow of front line staff and volunteers

Time Management- You will ensure that the scheduled daily, weekly and monthly housekeeping tasks and routines are carried out as instructed in a timely and efficient manner.

Customer Service- You will manager the customer service desk which includes cash handling and answering customer enquiries. You will also support members of the public access computers, eResources and self-service kiosks.

Health and Safety – You will be responsible for carrying out and recording routine and preventative health and safety checks on site; including fire alarm testing

Organisation Skills- You should ensure that the scheduled children’s activities take place, including Rhyme Time and Storytimes.

Site Management- You will be responsible to open and close buildings as required and to be responsible for the security of the building and its contents whilst open to the public and on duty.

You may be required to work in any of our 12 libraries across the borough, so you will need to be flexible in your attitude to work.

Full Time 36 hour posts working 4 days every week and every other Saturday

Weekdays from 9.15 – 6.15/7.15

Saturdays from 9.15 – 4.15.
