A Pensions Technician is required to undertake specialised Pensions administrative/technical activities and supervision of team members responsible for processing a specific area of work so that the functions of the work area progress efficiently within agreed timescales according to defined procedures.
Key responsibilities:
Undertake specialised technical and administrative pensions processes and procedures which require interpretation and judgement to achieve satisfactory and required outcomes.
Undertake research on specified matters and areas of work to obtain, collate and present information in a logical and acceptable format for use by senior staff for operational/financial management and policy development purposes.
Respond to non-routine and complex enquiries, budgeting policies and practices, using discretion and judgement in forming responses to that advice on the area of work dealt with by the section is consistently given in accordance with agreed policies and within defined procedures.
Identify problems by continuous review and make recommendations for action to more senior members of staff on the jobholder’s specified objectives.
Allocate, monitor and control workloads of more junior staff in order to ensure that the day to day work of the section is progressed according to agreed timescales and schedules and that problems are identified and addressed.
Train staff so as to ensure that they are competent to undertake the required tasks commensurate with the principle responsibilities of their jobs.
Ensure that systems connected with the work of the section are properly operated problem areas identified and suggestions for improvement made so as to ensure optimum efficiency and effectiveness.
Monitor performance against Financial Services and Council Standards with own area of responsibility to ensure compliance and achievement.

Qualifications:
Preferred BTEC Higher or equivalent.
Member of the Institute of Payroll and Pensions Management (IPPM) desirable.
Experience:
Minimum 4 years in the pensions industry and or customer service.
Evidence of successful implementation of process improvement.
Experience in problem analysis and delivering workable solutions.
Evidence of managing customer expectations and service levels.
Evidence of resolving pension problems and obtaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
Evidence of introducing change and improvement in the pension’s environment.
Knowledge:
Detailed working knowledge and practical expertise in the use of PC software.
Understanding of pensions practices of the Local Government Pension Scheme regulations.
In depth working knowledge of databases/Task Management and document production.
Sound working knowledge of pensions practices and procedures desirable.
A good understanding of CWAC business objectives desirable.
Skills & Abilities:
Good communication skills, oral, written and presentations.
An ability to plan, initiate and implement change and quality improvement in service delivery, using creativity and innovation.
Customer focus with the drive and focus to continually improve service delivery and quality of information.
Ability to exercise technical judgement in identifying and resolving problems. Communicate technical issues without the use of pension jargon.
Ability to work to deliver quality work to timescales.
Good team player who is committed to develop and support team members to reach their full potential.
Methodical worker with logic and pragmatic approach, setting high standards for themselves and others.
Calm, collective, decisive and resilient when working to tight timescales.
Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
