Respiratory Medicineat Newham University Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trustare looking for1fixed termConsultant Physicians inRespiratory Medicine.


Forthispost there is aGeneral Medical on call commitment in the form of an integrated on-callrota(currently 1:18 but with a plan to change to 1:12 as recruitment progresses– there will be an uplift in PA allocation that is to be confirmed following a pilot of a new weekend workingrotamodel).


The successful candidates will be employed on afixed termbasis. If working 10PAs the split of duties would be 7.5DCC/2.5SPAfixed term post for 6 months.


You must hold full registration with the General Medical Council and be on the Specialist Register forRespiratoryand General Medicine or within 6 months of obtaining CCT.


The candidateswill besupported bythe ClinicalLeads and there is the opportunity for mentorship to help you transition into your new role


Thesuccessful applicantwill join our dynamic respiratory departmentasasasubstantiveConsultant with a special interest inGeneral Respiratory Medicine and Integrated care.The post includes 10 PA of activity.This is a Royal College of Physicians approved post.





This exciting and innovative post has been developedas there isincreased recognition for Specialist Respiratory Support within our community services, towork collaboratively with the Trust,departmentand community partners to lead, develop and supportpatients with acute and chronic respiratory diseases.





Thesuccessful applicantwill work closely withour multidisciplinary community respiratory team. This dedicatedteam already provides continuing care for patients with complexairways disease, chronic breathlessnessandhome oxygen assessment and review services (HOSAR).

he secondary carecomponentof the job plan will consist ofcomprehensive, consultant-ledrespiratory care for inpatientsatNewham Hospital,supportforrespiratory registrar referrals and assessments,vetting ofadvice and referrals service and contributing to a regular bronchoscopy/pleural list.


Spring 2024 will see the opening of a new Respiratory ward which will be co-located with the intensive care department in a newly built,state of the artcomplex. Thisnew wingwillprovide generous office space forConsultantsand juniors, large MDT meeting rooms, private family rooms for sensitive conversations and break out space forone to onediscussions. There is room for up to 26 respiratory patients with ventilated side rooms on the perimeter.
