About the Borough
This special place in South West London between the capital and the country has been a Royal borough longer than anywhere else - it is where the first kings of England were crowned.

Today it is a vibrant and diverse borough, with a long history and strong cultural and community heritage. Kingston's riverside location, fantastic retail offer, historic market place and church, parks and gardens all make Kingston town centre the vibrant space it is, and each of our district town centres (Surbiton, New Malden, Tolworth and Chessington) have something unique to offer.

Situated in Zone 6, Kingston is among the best-connected town centres in London – with direct train links from Kingston and Surbiton stations to Clapham Junction and London Waterloo, as well as Wimbledon for an interchange with the London Underground and Tramlink.

Kingston’s people are innovative and entrepreneurial, and have a strong sense of community pride. The borough has been home to great industry and creativity for many years, reflected in assets such as the Rose Theatre, the International Youth Arts Festival and Kingston University, which boasts more new graduate business start-ups than any other.

We have seen tremendous generosity and compassion within our communities, particularly in response to COVID-19, which is a demonstration of Kingston’s key strength. The council offers a strong level of support to vulnerable groups and those who need additional support, which has also increased significantly as a result of the pandemic. Like most places, the average age of our population is rising as more people are living longer, so we are working closely with residents to help them maintain their independence and further improve the cost effectiveness of our service to meet the ongoing rise in demand.

Kingston is home to people from diverse and interesting cultures and backgrounds, which helps to create the rich sense of community shared across the borough. In particular, Kingston has a large Sri Lankan Tamil community and is home to more people from Korea than any other part of the UK.

About the Role
You will deliver a comprehensive resettlement service to residents in need of additional support, who are being moved as part of the Cambridge Road Estate (CRE) regeneration.

The CRE Regeneration is Kingston’s most important housing development programme for many years. As well as building high quality modern homes to suit the needs of local residents, we are creating a safer neighbourhood with new parks, play areas and community facilities.
We are at an exciting stage in the programme now, with construction of the first of the new homes in phase 1 nearing completion later this year. We are looking for an experienced and committed professional to join our dedicated rehousing team at a crucial point in this journey.
You will work alongside the CRE team and other partners to provide a flexible and creative front line service, supporting residents before, during and after their moves
You will be working face to face with tenants and their households living on the Cambridge Road Estate, as well as partner agencies or friends, family and advocates who may be supporting them
This is a varied and interesting role with flexibility, creativity and problem-solving at its core

About Us
We are a small but very supportive team doing a big job! The CRE rehousing team sits within the wider CRE project team, and we work very closely with housing service colleagues, the development team and other teams within RBK and across the wider voluntary and community sector in Kingston.

Our purpose is to ensure the rehousing programme is kept on track, to meet the redevelopment timelines and to make sure we deliver the best possible outcomes for our residents.

Our core principles are flexibility, consistency and transparency and we are constantly striving to improve and develop the service we offer to CRE residents through innovation and creativity.

About You
To be successful in the role of Moving Support Officer, you will be able to demonstrate the following key points:

A thorough understanding and experience of working within the social housing sector
Experience of managing complex caseloads and working across multidisciplinary teams
An ability to work independently, creatively and flexibly in a fast paced environment
An appetite for problem solving and a ‘can do’ attitude
Strong interpersonal skills and a sensitive and empathic approach with people who may be vulnerable or need high levels of support
