A Vacancy at Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust.

This training is for a nurse with relevant qualifications to undertake the SCPHN training in order to become a health visitor. It involves undertaking the SCHPN course at Brunel University London for the academic side of the course and you will be gaining your clinical experience with Harrow 0-19 Service (health visiting) where you will have a supervisor and an assessor.

Harrow is a richly diverse outer London Boroughs, which bring challenges and rewards for practitioners, within the Health Visiting Service which is recognised as delivering an innovative and progressive service. Harrow is an exciting, dynamic place to work with excellent partnership working with Children Centres and other agencies. If you are enthusiastic and motivated about working in health visiting to ensure positive outcomes for children, we want to hear from you!

You will be given a fixed term one-year full-time contract to undertake a PGDip Specialist Community Public Health Nurse course (Health Visiting) starting in September 2024 at Brunel University. Sponsorship will be paid at band 5 salary. The course is funded by the HEE

Successful completion of the course will lead to registration on Part 3 of the NMC register, an NMC recordable qualification, and eligibility to apply for a post as a Health Visitor.

Candidates applying for sponsorship must undertake a numeracy and literacy assessment at Brunel University on the day of the interview.

As an NHS Trust we strongly encourage and support vaccination as this remains the best way to protect yourself, your family, your colleagues and of course patients and service users when working on our healthcare settings.

The post of Student Health Visitor (HV) is a development post, building on existing knowledge, skills and competencies to achieve a higher level of practice resulting in an academic qualification as well as a registerable qualification with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

You will work closely with the people who use our services, their families, friends and carers and influence how people experience our services. Nurses are expected to be kind, responsive and professional, and contribute to the quality of the services we provide by:
• keeping the people who use our services as safe as possible through sound clinical skills
• ensuring the best possible clinical outcomes by utilising evidence-based policies and procedures
• ensuring the people using our services have a good experience by respecting, empowering and working in partnership throughout the care planning process

Working for our organisation is not only exciting but also we are a diverse workforce who provide a lot of support to clients, their family and our staff. This is reflected in our values which includes:

Compassion -recognising and responding to the suffering of others. This meanswe all contribute to a compassionate environment for everyone; what we say and do helps make the lives of others better.

Respect -respect and value the diversity, rights, assets and limitationsof others, to create a respectful and inclusive environment. Thisapplies to our colleagues, partners, the individuals we care forand their families and friends.

Empowerment -we will involve, inform and empower those we care for andwork with, to take an active role in the management of theirown lives and wellbeing. We will strive to offer appropriatedirection and support, to enable others to develop and grow.

Partnership -we will work closely with others, in line with our other values,to ensure that our combined efforts are focused on achievingthe best possible outcomes. We will strive for co-production inall.

We also have a number of other supportive measures including our staff benefits, reward and wellbeing and a variety of supervision measures in place.

Your timetable for the year will be provided by the university and will demonstrate all the relevant information needed to complete your course. It will also include your clinical days/periods so you can not only gain knowledge about health visiting in our services but which is enhanced by our clinical staff who will support you in gaining the experience and knowledge to enhance your clinical skills. You will also have details of all the required assessments for the year.

You will start off as supernumerary, observing your supervisor and other members of the team, but will gradually build up your skills in order to do the work which health visitors do independently. As a student health visitor, you will be involved in the Healthy Child Programme including the 5 mandated areas, this will be achieved through group work, developmental reviews, health promotion sessions. These may be face-face or virtual but you will be supported throughout in order to gain the confidence needed to support families. You will also gain knowledge and experience in safeguarding and child protection which is another important part of our role.

We have recently introduced Maternal Early Childhood Sustained Home Visiting Service (MECSH) which will further support our families especially those who are vulnerable. This is an exciting time and you will be part of this development.
