Hounslow Adult Autism Assessment and Diagnostic Service:

Specialist Autism Practitioner (Registered Nurse/OT or Speech & Language Therapist):

We are really excited to offer this opportunity to a forward thinking, proactiveSpecialist Autism Practitionerfrom an array of different clinical backgrounds(registered nurse, OT or speech & language therapist)who is able to bring an energy and drive to the role and wider service.

From our years of working within a multi-disciplinary setting, we have always valued the rich diverse contributions that different clinicians can bring to meeting the needs of people and autism.
• To support the operation of the Autism Service by providing input into specialist assessments and post diagnostic support for adults referred to the service
• To provide group based and individual support to adults who have received an ASD diagnosis following assessment by the service
• To work with multi-disciplinary colleagues who may contribute to aspects of the diagnostic process
• The post holder will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues in the co-ordination of the various assessments, outcome formulation and diagnosis
• The post holder will be required to direct referring services, such as GPs, to facilitate service-users’ onward referrals for intervention and support post assessment. It is therefore expected of the post holder to develop and promote awareness and understanding of the unique needs of autistic adults and the structures and skills necessary
• The post holder will be responsible for audit and service evaluation of the diagnostic pathway and processes

We are a very caring service and pride ourselves in being creative and innovative and being driven to offer a service which is genuinely person centered.

Hounslow is a very diverse Borough, so being creative in our approach is second nature. Every approach and intervention offered is designed to meet individual needs of the people we serve.

We work Monday to Friday between the core hours of 9am until 5pm, with some flexibility required on occasion to meet different demands.
• To contribute to specialist autism assessments and post-diagnostic support of service-users referred to the Service using appropriate data from a variety of sources. This will include the use of specialist assessment tools (e.g., ADOS-2, ADI-R etc.), clinical observations and interviews where appropriate
• Facilitate the running of post-diagnostic support groups
• To help plan, support and facilitate time limited post diagnostic work with service users who have undergone autism diagnostic assessment with the service and received a confirmed ASD diagnosis. This would include groups and workshops, individual or family/support network support where appropriate
• To evaluate and make recommendations to other professionals, such as GPs and community practitioners, about intervention options for service users on discharge from the service
• To hold clinical responsibility for cases on caseload referred for assessments
• To undertake risk assessment and risk management for all service-users in attendance within the service, including the protective and risk factors present in the network of significant relationships
