This is an exciting opportunity for the post holder to work alongside Speech and Language Therapist supporting assessments and interventions - including the compiling and implementation of communication resources. This is a community based post, within the Enhanced Support Team. The team covers Southend, Castlepoint and Rochford, Basildon, Brentwood and Thurrock; so the post holder must have a drivers licence and a car.

The post holder will be working alongside a Learning Disability Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Consultant Psychiatrists to provide services to adults with a learning disability.

The Team works 7 days a week supporting people living in their own homes as well as providing an "in reach" service to the Learning Disability Assessment and Treatment Unit, based on site in Billericay- under the guidance of a qualified speech and language therapist,

The post holder will work a mixture of shifts 8am to 4 pm and 12 noon until 8pm on a Monday and Friday. If they are rotated to work over a weekend and bank holiday they will work Saturday and Sunday 9am -5pm and will have two shifts off during the week. This is full time position but part time working will be considered.





The post holder must have substantial previous rehabilitation experience as an AHP therapy assistant at Band 3 in Health or the equivalent in Social Care Knowledge of physical health conditions that can impact on daily living

The post holder can demonstrate understanding and awareness of the Therapy Assistant Practitioner role and work independently as well as under supervision by the qualified speech and language therapist.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
• To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to prevent admission and support early discharge from acute and community hospitals.


• To deliver specific therapeutic input as part of goal directed treatment and rehabilitation programme




• To assist and promote independent living skills based on a person centred approach ,focusing on rehabilitation and maintenance of function


• To assist in the delivery of therapy interventions as appropriate.


• To feedback any outcomes/concerns/progression/deterioration with regard to the achievement of the set goals.


• To maintain patient records using appropriate documentation for intervention carried out.


• To enable and empower patients to develop self and environmental management skills.


• To promote and facilitate access to community resources.


• Enable individuals to sustain and improve their overall health and wellbeing.


• Identify, act and minimise risk to patients and clients.
