About this opportunity

The Derivative and Prudential Valuation team are a very approachable team, always happy to answer questions and support your development! We work closely together to deliver and develop, strongly encouraging knowledge sharing and cross skilling

The team are responsible for performing valuation related activities for derivative exposures across all divisions.

We're part of the Commercial Banking Finance community, but our work across divisions means we also enjoy close working relationships with teams across the group including GCT, Insurance and Risk

You'll have the opportunity to develop technical skills as well as a commercial understanding of the Products, Businesses and Risks associated with Fair Value instruments - becoming a recognised specialist in valuations and able to support a senior audience, as well as providing insight and governance for key internal committees (e.g. Valuation Committee) and regulatory bodies (e.g. PRA)

You'll also build a great foundation in Commercial Banking Finance, developing strong communication skills and relationships across the group and gaining insight into exciting businesses including Trading, Treasury and Insurance.

This role will also provide the valuable building blocks around understanding pricing and valuations, which are highly regarded and transferable to other roles across Finance, Risk and Front Office.


Key activities could include:

Assisting with database design and development to support the Trading Book Wind Down process

Technical database support for the IPV and Prudential Valuation processes

Identifying new opportunities for process improvement and control through enhanced use of the existing IT infrastructure

Documenting key databases and processes

What you'll need

We're looking for a pro-active and self-motivated individual with some understanding of Commercial Banking and an ability to form important relationships.

You're expected to have experience of working with large datasets and have the ability to interrogate data across the Microsoft Office suite (Access, Excel) as well as Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.

Other key skills:

Strong Microsoft Access and Excel skills

SQL and VBA programming languages desirable

Problem solving and critical thinking skills

The ability to explain technical topics to non-specialist audiences

Challenging constructively to support better quality outputs and outcomes
