Crynodeb
The successful candidate will be carefully supervised by Mr Russell, Mr T Wallace, Mr P Coughlin or Mr M Bailey and in all aspects of the clinical and laboratory research work, and in addition, have a senior (Professor or Reader in the University of Leeds) non-clinical co-supervisor based throughout his/her project. There are regular research meetings at which the work in progress is carefully evaluated and this also serves as a problem-solving forum. The Trust Doctor is actively encouraged to present his/her work at local, national and international meetings and it is expected that the research work is submitted to peer-reviewed journals. Previous Vascular Research Fellow post holders have been successful in being awarded either an MD or PhD Degree by the University of Leeds and it is expected that the current incumbent would also submit his/her work for such a higher degree. The unit has an excellent track record of research fellows obtaining national training numbers in surgery, and most recently in the new separate vascular surgical speciality. In addition to the research aspects of the post, the post holder is also afforded the opportunity to improve his/her clinical experience in the form of elective day-case surgery, and seeing patients in the clinic and participating in the vascular surgical and major trauma acute out of hours rota.
