Our Deputy Director, Enterprise Architecture is the Head of the Technical Architecture profession. They work with the Technical Architects across the MoJ agencies to deliver cross MoJ technology governance, standards, architecture patterns and roadmaps.
The Deputy Director, Enterprise Architecture works within the Chief Technology Office, and plays a pivotal role in shaping and overseeing the technical components and frameworks that support all digital services. This position is at the heart of ensuring that our technical approaches are seamlessly integrated with and aligned to our business processes throughout the entire MoJ. It involves setting the standards and principles, as well as making key decisions that shape the MoJ’s future direction.
They own the overall technology governance including the Technical Design Authority, architecture forums and solution surgeries. Creating roadmaps and engaging across the agencies and wider Government to communicate technology and best practice. They act as the escalation point for technology issues with the goal of reducing duplication, risks and costs for the MoJ.
The Deputy Director, Enterprise Architecture provides mentoring within teams and provides peer support to other architects.
They have a good understanding of a broad range of technologies. They understand the business processes and how these map to technology solutions. They are able to converse easily with and translate between non-technical stakeholders and technical practitioners.
Responsibilities
Acting as Head of Profession for Technical Architects and providing leadership for Enterprise Architecture.
Creating and holding ownership of an overall strategic reference architecture, value chains, shared common component approach and roadmap.
Running of technology governance, assuring technical solutions.
Addressing legacy systems and technical debt to reduce costs and complexity.
Ownership of the common technical artefacts, principles, standards and patterns.
Supporting creation of business cases for technology initiatives which will have a direct impact on budgets, costs and timescales.
Owning the technology risk register, ensuring that mitigations are in place to reduce risks.
Acting as advisor, escalation point and authority on technology.
Ownership of the overall architecture roadmaps.
Working with other Architects to encourage knowledge sharing and collaboration.
Engaging across the MoJ and government to share best practice.
Guiding and influencing technical choices and seeking out opportunities for digital transformation.
Assuring services and system quality, ensuring the technical work fits into the broader strategy, standards and principles for the MoJ, and
Supporting the recruitment process, including taking part in recruitment for both Technical Architects and other professions such as Software Developers.
