An exciting opportunity is now available within Southwest London and St Georges Specialist Service line working in the Inpatient Forensic, Specialist Services and Complex Care inpatients as a Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist.

Forming part of the Specialist Service Line, you will work in partnership with clinical and operational leaders and a broad range of stakeholders from across the local system to ensure we continue to provide high quality services.

You will work collaboratively to ensure service meet the local standards, drive for quality and improvement, and keep service users at the heart of everything we do.

We are looking for someone with passion for patient centred care and quality improvement with an established track record of delivering performance standards through a compassionate leadership stance.

The post will be working across the Four inpatient Forensic wards at the Shaftsbury clinic, two inpatient Complex Care wards all based at the Springfield Hospital Site in Tooting, Deaf adult services, Neuropsychiatry and OCD/BDD teams. These services currently sit under the Specialist Service line in the Trust.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist is responsible for the support and application of clinical care and interventions that enhance quality, improve service delivery, and have positive experience outcomes for service users, carers and staff under the direction of the Clinical Lead Nurse & the Head of Nursing for Quality.

The role is predominantly concerned with ensuring the delivery of high standards of patient centred care within key quality domains. It combines clinical expertise, leadership and education/research skills with management and professional responsibilities.

You will focus on supporting effective practical leadership in service areas and promoting a culture of high performance and clinical excellence under the direction of the Lead Nurse.

You must be adept at prioritising the activities, under the direction of the Lead Nurse, that will provide the most efficient, effective and safe pathway and escalate any concerns that will prevent this from happening

You will be responsible for the supporting and monitoring of the assigned care pathway quality and improvement plans.

Under the direction of the Head of Nursing and Quality the Lead Nurse will work in partnership with the Team Leaders to ensure compliance with quality & safety standards within their assigned clinical pathways / teams, as well as co-ordination of quality improvement initiatives, clinical audit and nice guidelines, including the Fundamental Standards Of Care (FSOC).

Reporting to the Clinical lead Nurse the post holder will be responsible for:
• The Clinical Nurse Specialist will provide specialist enhanced clinical assessment and support, specifically to people under portfolio of services.
• Will work closely with the ward managers and clinical teams across portfolio of services
• The post holder is expected to carry out high quality assessments, formulation, clinical intervention where appropriate and engage in clinical consultation.
• The post holder will work in partnership with the team leaders to ensure compliance with the quality and safety standards within the assigned clinical pathways and teams.
• Provide teaching and coaching to all grades of nursing staff in their delivery of nursing care.
• The post holder will coordinate and support the quality improvement initiates (Qi) clinical audit and nice guidelines.
• To support ward managers and teams with embedding Fundamental standards of Care in to practice.
• Being a visible leader and champion of good mental health care within the assigned clinical pathways and teams.
• Ensure recording of data, use of outcomes measures in clinically meaningful way to demonstrate improvements.
• The post holder is expected to work in partnership with local mental health teams including community agencies and other relevant stakeholder agencies including GPs and primary care workers, Psychiatrists, Social Workers, Community Mental Health Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Clinical Psychologists, Support Workers, Peer Support Workers, and administrative staff.
• Work to relevant professional and ethical guidelines, and within the framework of Directorate and Trust policies and procedures.
