The biggest team you’ll ever join, the most important work you’ll ever do. Becoming an Army Reserve Soldier is more than a hobby. It’s adventure, with purpose. It’s action, with responsibility. It’s a great challenge, with exceptional rewards.
It’s a chance for you to do what really matters, in a way that fits around your current career, making more of what you already know to make a real difference to the world.
Army Reserve soldiers come from all walks of life and work part-time as soldiers for the British Army alongside full-time Regular soldiers. When you join the Army Reserve as a soldier, you'll get involved in everything that the Regular Army does - from combat to peacekeeping and humanitarian work. You'll be given the opportunity to learn trade skills, and can take advantage of the opportunities that Regular soldiers have too - like Adventurous Training.
You’ll also receive:
• Pay for the time you spend with us, starting from around £51 per day after training (for which you’ll be paid)
• An annual tax-free ‘bounty’
• The Army’s Reserve Forces Pension Scheme
• Opportunities to enhance your professional qualifications
• Opportunities to travel
• Adventurous Training, and the chance to play your favourite sports or take up a new one
Be reserved for more
From travelling to new places, at home and abroad, to forging lasting bonds with friends and colleagues – there’s a lot to gain from being an Army Reserve Soldier. Training is flexible and designed to fit around your lifestyle, most roles will ask you for a commitment of 27 days a year, and your weekly training session at your unit will count towards this. However, if you join a national unit, it could be as little as 19 days a year.
