Isle of Wight NHS Trust is looking for Specialty Doctors in General Medicine and Care of the Elderly. Applications are invited from enthusiastic and well-motivated doctors for the role of Specialty Doctor position to commence as soon as possible. Applicants must have full registration with the GMC and previous experience of working as a Senior House Officer or higher













Take part in the middle tier rota, covering 24 hours, seven days a week.

Undertake professional development and participate in audit, ensuring all clinical governance areas are met.

Be active participant in regular clinical audit, including some coordination of audit.

Comply with General Medical Council’s ‘Maintaining good medical practice’.

Undertake annual appraisal for revalidation purposes which will include confirmation of continuing professional development via RCEM validation / recording.

Substituting in an emergency for absent or ill colleagues and undertaking in exceptional circumstances irregular commitments outside normally rostered duties.

Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff

Candidates must be ATLS, ALS and APLS/PALS certified. FRCS, MRCP, MCEM, MRCS or MRCGP is desirable though not essential.

The Isle of Wight Trust and Solent NHS Trust recognise that organisations are stronger when they work together. Mental Health and Learning Disability services across both organisations have established a strategic partnership underpinned by a Memorandum of Understanding. In the first year, the partnership focussed on development of a clinical strategy for MH&LD services in the IOW, and the focus is now on implementation of that strategy and delivering a comprehensive programme of transformation that touches all aspects of MH&LD services on the IOW.

There are close links with both Portsmouth and Southampton Universities and successful applicants are encouraged to involve themselves with all aspects of undergraduate and post-graduate medical training. Honorary Senior Lectureships are available and encouraged.

This is a 10 PA post and takes into consideration time for audit and administration. The successful candidate will be part of the team providing middle grade cover to General Medicine, supervising Trust Grade Junior Doctors. He / she will be expected to play an active part in the teaching and audit presently carried out in the unit. Attendance of courses and further professional development is strongly encouraged. And there will be continuous support in completing work based assessments provided throughout the post. Keeping resuscitation skills and courses up to date will be supported in house, these include- ALS, ATLS
