PURPOSE OF POSITION


a) Provide nursing care that is person-centred, safe and compassionate
b) To supervise and deliver excellent standards of care which promote privacy and dignity, while enhancing independence, rehabilitation and personal choice
c) To ensure an excellent reputation for high quality care is maintained and promoted in the local community and behave as a role model to other colleagues
d) Ensure NMC The Code is adhered to at all times (Professional Standards of Practice and Behaviour for Nurses, Midwifes and Nursing Associates)

Accountability

• Nurses act in the best interests of residents, putting them first and providing care that is person-centred and compassionate. They act professionally at all times and use their knowledge and experience to make evidence-based decisions and solve problems. They recognise and work within the limits of their competence and are responsible for their actions.
• They should act in accordance with The Code: Professional standards of practice and behaviour for nurses, midwives and nursing associates and fulfil all registration requirements.
• Nurses should understand and apply relevant legal, regulatory and governance requirements, policies and ethical frameworks, including any mandatory reporting duties to all areas of practice.
• They should understand the importance of courage and transparency and apply the Duty of Candour.
• They should safely demonstrate evidence-based practice in all skills and procedures.


RESPONSIBILITIES


• Support the Clinical Lead and Registered Manager in order to ensure that the Home complies with the relevant Act and all other legislation applicable to the Home.

• Support the Clinical Lead and Registered Manager with visits from the CQC, NCC/DCC, CCG and other regulatory/inspecting bodies, and organise and plan agreed follow-ups in regards to nursing and any care matters in the home.

• Raise concerns with the Registered Manager, the Care & Development Manager and the Nurse Quality Manager about any decisions made by the Clinical Lead and other Nurses, which could compromise healthcare.

• Nurses play a role in supporting residents to improve and maintain their mental, physical, and emotional health and wellbeing.

• They monitor the condition and health needs of residents within their care on a continual basis, in partnership with residents, families and carers. They contribute to ongoing assessments and can recognise when it is necessary to refer to others for reassessment.

• Nurses play an active role as members of a multi-disciplinary team, collaborating and communicating effectively with other nurses and a range of other health and care professionals.

• Nurses identify risks to safety and take appropriate actions, putting the best interests, needs and preferences of residents first.

• Nurses contribute to the provision of care for residents, including those with complex needs. They understand the roles of a range of professionals from other organisations who may be involved in the care of the person and their family.

• They should be able to communicate effectively with sensitivity and compassion, including with residents who have special communication needs or a disability.

• Must be able to demonstrate effective supervision skills, by giving clear instructions and constructive feedback.

• Promote the home’s care philosophy, including policies and procedures on Privacy & Dignity for the Residents, Adult Protection and Equal Opportunities.

• Attend appropriate training to help you with your role, as requested by the Clinical Lead, Registered Manager or Nurse Quality Manager.

• Liaise with the Clinical Lead/Registered Manager about any maintenance task required.

• To take part in staff meetings and group supervisions

• To be aware of all procedures of the Home and follow at all times

• To complete checklists (AM, PM and Night) and report any issues to Clinical Lead / Registered Manager

• To maintain proper and accurate records regarding the Residents and other home information.

• To be knowledgeable regarding the whereabouts of all Residents at all times.

• To accompany Residents on outings and appointments as per their care programme as required.
