The Practice Nurse will have support from their work place mentor to be accountable for their own professional actions. After relevant training, undertakes procedures to include, venepuncture, blood glucose testing, BP checks, urinalysis, peak flow, new patient health checks, pregnancy testing, stitch/clip removal. Recognises and understands the importance of observing, documenting and communicating the signs and symptoms of child and adult abuse. Undertakes regular checking of all resuscitation equipment. Works within all relevant practice policies and procedural guidelines e.g., infection control, chaperoning, Patient Group Directions (PGDs). Enables, encourages, and supports individuals, families and groups to address issues which affect their health and social well-being. Represents individuals and families interests when they are not able to do so themselves. Develops and maintains the health promotion material within the practice. Makes referrals to statutory and voluntary agencies as appropriate. The Practice Nurse has a role in promoting good leadership for all grades of staff Contributes to the development, monitoring and evaluation of care delivery by the Primary Health Care Team. Promotes effective communication and relationships within the team. Partakes in clinical supervision for own development. Actively participates in clinical and practice meetings. Develops own knowledge and practice to meet objectives/changes in service. Contributes to practice policy development as required. Monitors and uses resources appropriately within the team e.g., dressings, vaccines, stationery. Makes effective use of the clinical system by ensuring the consistent and accurate entering of data and use of Read Codes. Facilitates the use of up to date information technology in order to collate accurate and timely information as and when required. Makes recommendations to raise standards of practice and service delivery. Frequent exposure to body fluids, blood and wounds. Occasional exposure to aggressive behaviour. Potential requirement to travel between sites. All members of staff are bound by the requirements of the Data protection Act 1998 and any breaches of the Act or of the confidential nature of the work of this post could lead to dismissal. The post holder must comply at all times with the practices Health and Safety policies, in particular by following agreed safe working procedures and reporting incidents using the PCT and practices Risk Incident Reporting System. The post holder must co-operate with all policies and procedures designed to ensure equality of employment. Co-workers, patients and visitors must be treated equally irrespective of gender, ethnic origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, religion etc. The post holder should respect patient confidentiality at all times and not divulge patient information unless sanctioned by the requirements of the role.
