Summary


**Full time and part time opportunities available**

An opportunity has arisen to join our friendly, hard working and progressive Non-Obstetric Ultrasound Team at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust.

This post will be based at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital but will include cross-site working at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford.

Currently, 3WTE vascular sonographers perform approximately 10000 vascular ultrasound scans annually across both sites. A wide range of examinations are undertaken, including;carotid and vertebral arteries,aortic surveillance including post EVAR and contrast studies, peripheral arterial studies (upper and lower limb), venous assessment (upper and lower limb), Doppler venogram, venous mapping, graft surveillance, haemodialysis fistula assessment and temporal arteries. Applicants must be proficient in full venous assessment.

The candidate should be qualified and experienced in performing and reporting on a wide range of vascular ultrasound examinations. We are looking for self-motivated and well organised person with proven ability to work autonomously, to share clinical duties with colleagues and also within the MDT teams.

Applications are open to candidates who have a vascular ultrasound qualification, including a Pg Dip in medical ultrasound including a vascular module.

Any candidate must have two years post qualification experience.


• To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of your own work, including the management of patients in your care.
• To develop and maintain skills required to perform at an advanced level, a varied range of unsupervised scans as detailed in the job summary, resulting in a high quality of patient care.
• To issue an independent report and instigate certain follow up procedures i.e. Abdominal X-rays, follow up scans etc.
• To suggest specialist referral or other investigations.
• To communicate effectively with patients and carers to ensure understanding of procedures.
• Skills of persuasion, motivation, explanation and gaining informed consent will be used with a wide variety of patients. Barriers to effective communication will be evident e.g.
patients with learning difficulties, dementia, pain and fear.
• To prepare sterile trolleys and to assist, including scanning, in contrast enhanced ultrasound examinations.

You will have a recognised and accredited vascular ultrasound qualification this includes DMU, a CASE accredited Pg Certificate/Diploma ultrasound which includes a vascular module, and be HCPC registered.
