We are looking for an experienced Occupational Therapy Assistant to join our Care Home, Berkeley House in Pemberton, Wigan.

Job summary:
To assist the Occupational therapist with planning and implementation of therapy specific treatment.
Berkeley house is a 97 inpatient bedded care home which specialises in supporting individuals with complex mental health needs, the patients are likely to have a dual diagnosis of Neuro disabilities, Learning disabilities and complex needs in adults from age 18 upwards.
Main responsibilities:
Gain knowledge of underpinning OT values and use these to guide practice
To facilitate individual’s participation with meaningful activity/occupation based on their past and present interests
Encourage individuals to work towards short term and long-term therapy goals
To assist in the provision of Occupational Therapy (OT) including assessments, planning person centred interventions and re-assessments
Encourage engagement in a daily routine including activities of daily living, social engagement, engagement with the local community etc.
To monitor and feedback the progress of individuals occupational functioning with OT and MDT
To assist individuals in the use of aids, adaptations, and equipment with direct supervision of the occupational therapist.
Maintain accurate and timely written documentation of individuals participation in therapy and group sessions
To participate in internal and external training programmes to gain knowledge of and improve practices within the service
To always safeguard service users in your care and ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are always followed
To work in a person-centred way ensuring all service users are treated as individuals.
To conduct audits as required to ensure a high standard of care and maintain the safety of our service users and promote service improvement.
To always treat and ensure people are treated with respect and dignity
Understand and ensure the implementation of the Home’s Health and Safety Policy, Emergency and Fire Procedures.
Adhere to all Group policies and procedures within the defined time scales, CQC standards and guidelines, Department of Health guidelines and legislation, including the Mental Health Act, The Care Act 2014 and Code of Practice.
Undertake other duties, as required, by a Team Leader, Occupational Therapist, Nurse in Charge and General Manager
To have good IT skills and experience of word, PowerPoint, publisher ect preferred.
To complete mandatory training within the first two weeks of employment.

Being able to prioritise a clinical caseload provided by the OT
You should be passionate about therapy and rehabilitation and supporting and enabling people to meet their goals to improve their quality of life.

Expected hours: 40 per week (Monday- Friday) Bank holidays at managers discretion.
