Summary
Medway Renal Unit is a 12 bedded busy Satellite Dialysis Unit based on the periphery of Medway Hospital. We carry out approximately 180 sessions per week and are looking for a Band 6 Nurse to join our team. We will provide the management and leadership training that you require to safely carry out your role in dialysis which includes specific dialysis training and further development opportunities within your role.
The main duties of this role include providing haemodialysis care to renal out-patients on a daily basis including fluid management, recording observations, daily weights, intravenous medication, pressure sore prevention, vascular access care and diabetes management . We occasionally dialyse some of our patients who are in patients in the adjacent Medway Maritime Hospital.
You will be required to work your weekly hours covering both day shifts and the twilight shift, that we currently run on Monday's, Wednesday's and Friday's. The post holder is also required to cover an on call commitment at the Kent and Canterbury Hospital approximately 6-7 times a year.
Your role is to support the Unit Manager with the day to day running of the unit and to take responsibility for managing the unit in her absence. Duties include roster management and payroll, monitoring and managing sickness absence, carrying out appraisals, supporting of junior staff and students, dealing with patient concerns, liaising with Renal Team at Canterbury as we are a nurse led unit
By working clinically as a member of the nursing team you will work in partnership with the Matron/Senior Sister to provide clinical, professional and managerial leadership for a specialised unit based team of qualified and non-qualified staff. The post holder will be required to deputize in the absence of the Ward Manager and ensure a positive patient experience through the delivery of high standards of patient care. .
• Leading clinical nursing practice within the clinical area.
• Securing and assuring the highest standards of clinical care with the support of the Matron and Head of Nursing.
• The effective management of clinical and non-clinical risk reporting to the Manager within the Directorate Clinical Governance Framework.
