An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Neurosurgery and Orthopaedic Spine team at Southmead Hospital for a Typist/Administrator, 37.5 hours per week.

The successful candidate must have experience of audio typing and have a sound knowledge of IT packages in MS Office & Windows. The role requires someone who has a great attention to detail and great organisational skills for working in a fast paced, busy department.

The post holder will be required to undertake audio typing, which will include consultant clinics, discharge summaries and patient letters. The role will also include answering the telephone and dealing with queries from patients, relatives & clinical staff as well as supporting the medical secretary with all other admin duties.

Please note: Typing skills are an essential requirement for this role. Therefore, candidates without this experience need not apply and will not be shortlisted.

* Supporting Medical Secretaries with typing of clinics/ward rounds using audio equipment
* To assist with the dissemination of post to individuals within the department on a day to day basis
* Photocopying/faxing
* To assist with department filing as and when required
* Answering of department telephones and using judgement in responding to queries or taking messages. Ensure that all enquires are dealt with politely, courteously, promptly and professionally
* Ordering and monitoring of stationary for the department
* Access voicemail and pass on accurate messages
* To attend mandatory courses and participate in training programmes relating to areas of work. Ensure that skills and knowledge are up to date and develop when necessary .

To use Careflow (patient record system) to look up patient appointments,
addresses and tracking of notes.
