General Information

I am looking to recruit an experienced Personal Health Care Assistant to join a small team of Personal Assistants who enable me to live independently in my adapted home in Sittingbourne.

I am a man in my 50s with a high spinal cord injury and need support with safe moving and handling, personal care, preparation and cooking of meals, as well as health care tasks such as stoma and catheter care, for which training will be provided.

I am an expert in my own care needs as I have been living with this condition for many years and I require a team of dedicated Personal Assistants to deliver my care as directed by me.

I’m keen to employ someone that is reliable, trustworthy, conscientious, and able to use their own initiative.

Working as a Personal Health Care Assistant differs from other care roles. You’ll be supporting me with all aspects of daily life. If you feel that the role is for you, I’d like to hear from you.

It is the job of my Personal Assistant to assist in meeting my personal, social and domestic needs as a disabled person, and any other day-to-day requirements or activities. As a result of this assistance I hope to lead an individual, independent and active life in my own home, work and community.

As my Personal Assistant you should be able to handle the physical tasks of lifting, handling, pushing and bending, unless otherwise stated, you do not need to be physically strong to do certain tasks well, but it does help together with good general health.

You will need to have a current driving licence and an ability to drive a manual car.

Here are some of the qualities I am looking for in my Assistant:

  • Reliable and trustworthy
  • Able to accept responsibility
  • Self-motivated and work with initiative
  • Diligent and conscientious

  • Arrive at the agreed time ready to work
  • Give notice if you are going to be more than 10 minutes late
  • Communicate and discuss any problems that arise as soon as possible
  • Respect my privacy and maintain a professional approach at all times, being careful to treat your working relationship as confidential, including the nature of the assistance provided
  • Understand and be mindful of my right to dignity, respect, and independence
  • Respect my possessions and equipment and only use the telephone, television, radio etc. with prior consent

As you will be meeting my personal needs, for the most part the assistance required will be learnt through us working together however when required practical training and guidance will be provided. Online Safeguarding training will be provided and must be completed prior to employment start date.

Specialist training will include:
  • Safe Moving and Handling
  • Catheter/stoma care

  • Minimising the risk of Autonomic Dysreflexia
