We are looking for a person with experience of managing and using data and IT for the benefit of the business. This permanent role will help the Environment Agency meet its goals through leveraging our extensive data assets.

The role is varied and includes working with teams across the Environment Agency and Defra to:

• Playing a key role in the implementation of the National Data Strategy and ensure the Environment Agency meets its obligations under CDDO’s roadmap: Transforming for a Digital Future.
• Develop and manage a tool to provide EA Directors with assurance around their data and information. You’ll work with teams across the department and beyond to use data to help the business operate effectively.
• Work with the senior officer to evolve the Environment Agency’s data maturity and develop a roadmap to help the organisation continually improve.
• Help develop the EA approach to Quality, Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable data, primarily focused on Data Quality testing, improvements, and reporting.

The team

The Data Integrity and Flood Data team is part of Data, Digital and IT (DDIT). DDIT is an enthusiastic, inclusive department consisting of experienced and knowledgeable data and IT management staff. We help improve and protect the environment by delivering a variety of services which help the wider Environment Agency. This includes data sharing, knowledge management, GIS, data management, IT governance, data governance and innovation. DDIT sits within the Strategy, Transformation and Assurance Directorate.

Experience/skills required

• Data and information management including data quality
• Using data to benefit front line delivery
• Familiar with the MS suite (Forms, Power BI) to help assess and visualise data for different audiences
• Solving problems by applying knowledge, creativity, and evaluative judgement.
• Working with others to evolve existing practices to deliver positive benefits
• Influencing others to benefit from improved data management
• Familiar with how the Environment Agency is organised and works

You will proactively manage the health and safety of yourself and others and embrace working in a diverse team.
