Locum Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology

12-month fixed term contract

This is an exciting time to join the team at Whipps Cross University Hospital which has completed a large Barts Charity transformational and investment programme and be involved in the planning of the new hospital. The roles will also provide the opportunity to work across Barts Health with MDT colleagues from The Royal London Hospital and Newham University Hospital.

The post holder will be a key member of the medical team responsible for the treatment and care of women within our antenatal/postnatal wards, Delivery Suite, gynaecology inpatients and Accident and Emergency. In addition, it is expected that he/she will undertake outpatient clinics and operating lists as scheduled.

The Obstetrics & Gynaecology service at Whipps Cross Hospital is renowned not only for training but also for the breadth of experience available due to the diverse demography and epidemiology of the local population.

Applicants are invited to apply for the posts above, to join the Women and Children’s Division at Whipps Cross University Hospital. The Division has been rated Good by the CQC and is part of Barts Health NHS Trust, providing Women and Children’s Services across East London.

The post holders will join the team of 18 Obstetrics and Gynaecology Consultants, providing services to a multi-ethnic and diverse local population within Waltham Forest and Redbridge. This expanding team, with members who represent The Royal College and the London Deanery provide for 4,200 births per year within a busy maternity service.

Clinical (General)• To share responsibility with consultant colleagues for providing a high standard of care for both inpatients and outpatients. At all times having regard to the standards set out in the patient’s charter
• To liaise effectively with the local GP’s, community workers and all health care agencies
• To maintain and promote teamwork with those specialties working regularly with the department, which include Paediatrics, Radiology, Anaesthetics, General medicine, Pathology and Surgical specialties
• To play an active role in the relevant multidisciplinary meetings.



The responsibilities are reflected in the job timetable and the appointee will be responsible for the management of Gynaecological diagnostics and rapid access clinics, which includes Colposcopy, Oncology and Hysteroscopy. You will participate in the monthly Colposcopy MDT and monthly business meetings for Colpscopy and Oncology. You will also participate in the weekly local gynaecology MDT. You will contribute to the development of hysteroscopy clinics and proposed outpatient hysteroscopy treatment clinics. As of part of the team, the Oncology Fellow will work with this postholder to complete audits and report outcomes through the Governance structures within the service.
