Summary

The School of Science and Engineering has an international reputation for excellent teaching and topical research, particularly in addressing global challenges in energy, the environment, health care, technology, forensic science and infrastructure. The school has a wide range of engineering laboratories across Biomedical Systems, Construction & Structural, Fluid Mechanics, Geotechnical, Manufacturing, Physics, and Mechatronics. The facilities support education as well as fundamental and applied research through to large-scale testing, as well as external service testing and consultancy.


The Engineering Technician role is an essential part of the School's Engineering Technical Team, delivering high-quality technical provision and operational support. Working closely with our Technical Support Specialists the role supports innovative teaching to our students (UG, PGT and PGR) and world-leading research in our Engineering and Physics Disciplines.


Your priorities will include:



  • Applying engineering skills and knowledge to find creative and pragmatic solutions to practical problems.

  • Assisting in the organisation, delivery, and support of practical classes, laboratories, and group project work supporting great student experience on our engineering courses

  • Contributing to the manufacture, commissioning, operation and maintenance of equipment supporting


funded research and industrial engagement as well as education activities.


Who we're looking for:



  • Technical aptitude and practiced problem-solving technique working with engineering and/or scientific equipment.

  • Experience of acting as a point of contact for technical queries and an ability to balance competing demands and prioritise effectively.

  • Experience and/or Engineering qualification(s) such as apprenticeship, HNC, or HND in fields such as electronics, construction, mechanical engineering, or manufacturing.
