Summary

The role of Anatomy Technician will provide technical support to all aspects of Thiel, plastination and anatomical provision for the teaching and research activities within CAHID, such as support for all practical classes and general care and housekeeping of the teaching, laboratory and mortuary spaces. We are recruiting for an exceptional individual to join us as an Anatomy Technician within our School.

This is a fixed-term appointment for until 31 December 2024.

The postholder will carry out technical support to a high standard, work independently, and contribute to the development of new or improved methods of working. They will provide support to the Anatomy Technical Manager in the provision of governance procedures, databases and documentation to comply with legislation such as the Anatomy Act 1984 and Human Tissue (Scotland) Act 2006.

Your priorities will include:

  • To assist in the preparation and maintenance of cadavers in the Centre for teaching and research purposes
  • To assist in the maintenance and cleaning of mortuary and laboratory spaces
  • To maintain anatomical specimens such as prosections, pots, and bones and ensure that they are adequately stored and cared for
  • To use anatomical knowledge to select specimens for, and to set up and clear away, anatomy and forensic anthropology practical classes
  • To audit anatomical collections and stocks of consumables, such as technical supplies, personal protective equipment and other teaching supplies, and to ensure the appropriate removal and disposal of laboratory waste

Who we're looking for:

  • Minimum of BSc or equivalent degree in anatomy or related science subject
  • Evidence of experience with legislative compliance (e.g. Anatomy Act, Human Tissue Act, Health and Safety)
  • Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office software, with good numeracy
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively, enthusiastically and collegially either independently or as part of a group, including under emotionally challenging circumstances
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines and to meet milestone targets, with detailed attention to time management and multitasking
