North London Forensic Service

Looking for somewhere to establish your career in forensic mental health or for a change? The North London Forensic Service (NLFS) is recruiting Clinical or Forensic Psychologists to our inpatient services. There are opportunities to work in medium, low and learning disability services. It is an exciting time to join our service as we continue to embed trauma-informed practices, alongside multi-disciplinary colleagues and Experts By Experience.

With a large psychology team, NLFS benefits from a wealth of experience and expertise. A range of training and CPD opportunities are available, and the opportunity to contribute to active Research and Quality Improvement Forums.

As a Trust, we adopt trauma-informed recovery-based approaches to human distress, including psychosis, substance misuse and complex offending behaviour, using a wide range of therapeutic approaches. Medium to long term work is the norm.

3 WTE band 7 posts are available, with options of full/part-time, flexible, hybrid working. Two of the roles will be based on our main site at Chase Farm Hospital, Enfield, and one of the posts will be a split post also working at a low secure ward in Edmonton/Enfield).

Delivering an autonomous psychological service, incl. assessments/interventions (group and individual), consultation/training, forensic risk assessment using high level communication skills to convey complex/sensitive information to patients, colleagues and external agencies is essential.

The NLFS cares for people within the Criminal Justice System who have mental health conditions and is part of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health Trust, part of the North London Mental Health Partnership

Rated 'Outstanding' by the CQC, NLFS is one of a partnership of providers working together as a North London Forensic Collaborative, sharing a joint commitment to the continuous improvement of Forensic mental health services for patients, families, carers and staff.

As the lead provider within the collaborative, NLFS offers a range of highly specialist services including low- and medium-secure and SCFT services and includes a range of highly specialist forensic services notably the National Stalking Clinic and Fixated Threat Assessment Centre. Regular opportunities to move across teams and services arise, for those who may be interested in widening their experience during their employment with us in the longer term.

To provide a qualified clinical psychology service to detained patients within the inpatient services at the North London Forensic Service (including low and medium secure wards). The successful candidate will support the provision of psychological interventions as part of a multidisciplinary team including leading on the delivery of psychology within the team. This will include the provision of highly specialist and expert psychological assessment and interventions, in addition to contributing to developing research, offering supervision, consultancy training and reflective practice to psychology staff and other clinicians, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures. The use of research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the North London Forensic Service will also be required.
