Youth Justice Officer
Purpose:
Youth Justice Officers are responsible for supervising young people on court orders and working with complex families in accordance with statutory obligations, National Standards. The aim of this supervision it to reduce their rates of re-offending, and thus improve their future prospects, and increase the safety of the residents of Waltham Forest. The post holder will be part of the inter-disciplinary Youth Offending Service that provides community and through care services to young people who progress through the Criminal Justice process.
Generic Accountabilities:
Provide advice and make recommendations based on up to date knowledge and analysis / evaluation of information.
Manage escalated or complex customer issues within the relevant area.
Contribute to the development of service plans to meet strategic business goals.
Research developments in relevant area. Collate process and analyse information / data. Translate outputs into advisory reports / documents / actions as appropriate.
Lead on the development, implementation, maintenance and management of systems, policies, procedures and / or standards within area of responsibility.
Work closely with others to support/Manage the development and delivery of improvements in processes and procedures.
Prepare and present a full range of reports (both standard and non-standard) covering area of responsibility.
Manage a portfolio of Projects and Reviews.
Lead on specific projects as required.
Co-operate with and support colleagues.
Act in accordance with all policies and procedures which apply to the job and understand the reasons for this.
Carry out all duties and responsibilities with reasonable care for the health and safety of self and others and report any potential hazards or unsafe practices to line manager.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
To work with high-risk individuals and groups of young people and their families on designated projects.
To produce a range of written reports with deadlines and to attend Court as required.
To undertake assessments of young people including high-risk offenders, utilising standard assessment tools.
To liaise with other departments' services and agencies to further the objectives of the Youth Offending Team.
To participate in multi-disciplinary meetings including the presentation of information.
To maintain records and data systems to enable the measurement of team
Objectives.
Indicative Qualifications
PO2 Educated to degree level or has evidence analytical skills in assessment
Holds a relevant degree or has experience working with vulnerable children with complex needs
Has at least one year’s experience of working with children and families
Professional Certificate in Effective Practice
PO3- Educated to degree level
Holding a professional qualification recognised by a relevant regulating body (e.g. GSCC, JNC for youth and community workers), or an honours degree in youth justice.

Diploma in Probation Studies
Significant experience in performing the core duties of the post
