Reporting to the Director of Organisational Development, this is a key role in leading and coordinating our Trusts cultural development programme towards being a more inclusive organisation where people from all backgrounds feel like they belong, bringing their best to work. Situated within the People Support Team, which also leads programmes of work connected to health and wellbeing, staff engagement and psychological health, this post will lead the implementation of our Inclusion Delivery Plan. The People Support Team are part of the Organisational Development directorate which in itself is part of the People Directorate and we all work together to create a positive employment experience at UHCW in line with our People Strategy, valuing and enabling our people (2023 - 2030).

We have ambitious plans in terms of our Inclusion Delivery Plan, which was first approved in 2023, to ensure those people from diverse backgrounds thrive at work and bring their best.

You will be instrumental in ensuring we all do our part to remove barriers, understand discrimination and improve the experience of our staff.

You will lead a range of actions supporting improvement across the full employee life cycle, from resourcing, development and helping people at the end of their time with us to leave us well. Working with teams and leaders across the Trust this includes work on inclusive recruitment, inclusive staff experience, increasing representation in leadership positions and supporting our thriving staff networks. This also includes ensuring our policies, procedures and processes do not discriminate against diverse communities and ensuring our regular reporting through the Workforce Race Equality Standards and Disability Equality Standards are supported through relevant and impactful action plans.

You will 'hold up the mirror' to the organisation in terms of understanding the experience from diverse backgrounds and ensuring all people feel represented and heard across our organisation. You will lead a small team of people with a specialism in this area across the People Support Team and work closely with the wider Organisational Development Team, People Operations Team and Workforce Information Team.

The main duties will include:
• Lead the development and implementation of the Workforce Race Equality Standard and Workforce Disability Equality Standard Action Plans and the overall Inclusion Delivery Plan
• Completing and submitting the WRES and WDES online reporting form, developing and implementing the action plans
• Working closely with colleagues across the organisation around change management, quality improvement to ensure a co-ordinated approach to Equality compliance.
• Develop effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and to promote understanding and engagement in the Equality planning and delivery process
• Lead the development of policies and guidance required for the implementation of the Inclusion Delivery Plan across the organisation including the development of service improvement initiatives.
• Identify and influence key leaders to support the cascade delivery of key projects, responding to programme needs, creating confidence supported by evidence.
• Review the performance of projects and their reporting so that all key targets are met, ensuring that there is an ongoing review of progress and where necessary, intervention to ensure that projects are delivering to the required quality and levels of effectiveness, productivity and efficiency.
• Be active in developing and promoting a cycle of diversity activities in collaboration with communications directorate, the Equality Reference Group, and the staff networks.
• Take a pro-active role in promoting external Equality, Diversity and Inclusion learning and development programmes and celebrating achievements and success of Trust participants.
• Lead the production of a broad range of written professional communications tailored to identify the right channels and styles for specific audiences to raise awareness of key terms, phrases and approaches to promote equality, diversity and inclusion.
• Working in collaboration with others to develop communications plans for specific Equality and Diversity projects/campaigns
• Lead the development, publication and review of a robust and compliant Inclusion Delivery Plan and appropriate performance measures, aligned with the organisation’s strategic objectives, the Equality Delivery System and the People Strategy
• Lead the development and improvement of internal processes and systems that improve the organisation’s ability to analyse the equality impact of its policies, processes and operations on the local community and the workforce
• Supporting the organisation to engage with people from both ‘Protected Characteristics’ and communities who are likely to encourage health inequalities in the local population and the workforce to support consultation and a co-productive approach to service delivery
• Providing technical Equality expertise across the organisation as required
• Develop and deliver mandatory training and development to support compliance and a deeper understanding of equality in practice across the organisation.
• Working with our interpreting and translation providers to ensure compliance with framework requirements and any issues are resolved in a timely manner
• To develop the intranet pages relating to Equality, diversity and inclusion
• To develop knowledge around all aspects of the Equality, Diversity and human rights agenda
• To keep updated on changes in local and national initiatives relating to the post
• To be an active member of identified Trust groups/committees as required
• To assist in producing ad hoc reports and in project work.
• To undertake other duties commensurate with this grade of post in agreement with the relevant line manager
