Summary

We are looking for Fleet Fitters that will provide a full maintenance and repair service for the Councils Fleet of vehicles to Ministry ofTransport standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for the maintenance and repair of a diverse fleet of vehicles operated by the Council and other agencies which includes HGV, LGV, Cars, Refuse Vehicles, Mechanical Sweepers, Lorry Loaders Gritters and Horticultural equipment

2. Carry out MOT and taxi tests to the standards required by the Ministry of Transport.

3. Prepare and submit vehicles for MOT and HGV annual test.

4. Diagnosing faults, identifying parts required, fit parts and ensure roadworthiness of vehicles, also carry out minor body work repairs.

5. Carry out advanced diagnostic work in relation to auto electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.

6. Completion of relevant paperwork including writing up reports regarding condition of vehicles as required i.e. if deemed to be uneconomical to repair.

7. Attend vehicle breakdowns.

The candidates must have:

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. City and Guilds Motor Vehicle Craft qualification or recognised motor vehicle maintenance qualification.

2. Class IV and VII Nominated MOT Tester. (Work towards class V if and when required).

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

1. Minimum 4 years’ experience in vehicle workshop or fleet maintenance vehicle workshop.

2. The ability to utilise specialist software and hardware to fault find and carry out diagnostic investigation work to vehicle electrical systems.

3. Demonstrate knowledge of servicing and repair of car and light commercial vehicles up to 3.5 tonne.

4. Demonstrate knowledge of servicing and repair of HGV vehicles between 3.5 tonne and 32 tonne.

5. Demonstrate knowledge of servicing and repair of vehicle hydraulic, electrical, or pneumatic system (or aptitude to work towards with training in house).

6. After training aptitude and ability to carry out service and repair on municipal vehicles including, refuse trucks, road sweepers, Lorry Loaders plant and other specialist equipment.

7. Ability to utilise specialist workshop management software for the creation of work orders, completed job cards and diagnostic reports to DVSA standards.

8. Ability to prioritise allocated workload.

9. Demonstrate good communication skills with colleagues and customers.

10. The ability to benefit from training relevant to the post.

11. Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional unsocial hours and a willingness to expend time and effort when appropriate to complete allocated work.

12. Attend vehicle breakdowns during both core time and after hours and be available for stand-by and call out during winter maintenance gritting operations.

13. Hold a current category B driving license.

14. HGV Class 2 driving licence.
