FIXED TERM MATERNITY LEAVE COVER - TO JUNE 2025

PHYSIOTHERAPY /MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS TEAM LEAD

The post holder will play an integral part within the Interdisciplinary Team both clinically and developmentally with support from Team Leads. They will be required to work closely with consultants in rehabilitation medicine within clinics and also provide physiotherapy as an independent practitioner.

The post holder will provide a comprehensive detailed assessment of patients attending the specialist Neuro-Rehabilitation clinics including but not exclusive to the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Spasticity Clinics and with subsequent co-ordination of follow-up with District and other regional services. The post holder will be the Team Lead for the MS service.

Manage a caseload in the specialist Neuro rehab and clinics, which involves complex assessments, treatment and advice for patients and their carers.

Assess, order and provide equipment eg. walking aids, FES (functional electrical stimulation) machines. Ensure equipment safe to use and that those using equipment are safe to do so.





The West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre in Birmingham provides a specialist long term neurological conditions management and treatment service across the whole West Midlands Region and encompasses Consultant led specialist clinics for, Intrathecal Baclofen, Multiple Sclerosis, Neuromuscular disorders, Non Traumatic Spinal Injury, Young Adults, Spasticity and Complex Neurological Rehabilitation. The clinics are supported by a wide range of specialist rehabilitation services at the Centre, including: Functional Electrical Stimulation, Access to Communication and Technology, Posture and Mobility, Wheelchair Services, Clinical Measurements Laboratory, Orthotic Services, Counseling and Psychology Services.The post holder will provide a comprehensive detailed assessment of patients attending the specialist Neuro-Rehabilitation clinics including but not exclusive to the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Spasticity Clinics and with subsequent co-ordination of follow-up with District and other regional services. Provide comprehensive assessment, including detailed physical examination, which involves thorough understanding of patients with complex conditions with a range of cognitive, physiological, social and emotional/mental health problems.

Manage a caseload in the specialist Neuro rehab and clinics, which involves complex assessments, treatment and advice for patients and their carers.

Co-ordinate the assessment and rehabilitation programmes of people referred to the specialist rehabilitation clinics, linking with other regional services and liaising with local services as needed.

Assess, order and provide equipment eg. walking aids, FES (functional electrical stimulation) machines. Ensure equipment safe to use and that those using equipment are safe to do so.

Negotiate and set realistic goals with the patient and carers as an independent practitioner and as part of the interdisciplinary team. Dealing sensitively with patients having unrealistic expectations including discussions of poor diagnostic prognosis.

Perform home / hospital / Satellite Clinic visits independently or alongside other clinicians.
