About the roleThe Art and Design Curriculum Area has delivered outstanding provision over a number of years with a high profile both regionally and nationally and offers a broad range of provision from Level 1 through to BA Honours degree programmes. We require an enthusiastic and creative person with exceptional knowledge of the local, national and global fashion industry to lead the BA (hons) Fashion Design and Garment Technology programme.
The programme aims to produce graduates who can understand the critical and contextual dimensions of Fashion Design and the artists or designer’s relationship with audiences, clients, markets, users, consumers and/or participants through the development of an in-depth range of specialist personal and professional skills relevant to employment in the Fashion industry.
Our students understand the implications and potential of the key developments in current and emerging media and technologies, and in interdisciplinary approaches to contemporary practice within the fashion industry. They are prepared for employment within the fashion industry in an environment that includes industry standard equipment and technologies with an emphasis towards the digital processes (Adobe suite and Gerber).
About the PersonAlong with a relevant degree and preferably a masters, you should have a working knowledge of the HE sector and ideally experience of leading a course at this level.
The ability to deliver a range of fashion design and garment technology skills are essential and you will be responsible for designing and implementing a range of learning tasks that simulate industry practice. Therefore, industrial experience is essential, ideally with a background in the fields of product development and garment technology. The ideal candidate will have skills in leadership of a team of teaching and support staff along with excellent communication skills to ‘reach’ a diverse cohort of learners and ‘be the face’ of the programme when marketing the course at a wide range of recruitment activities.
