With the opportunity to gain more experience of acute paediatrics whilst working in a busy Paediatric Emergency Department (PED), this post is intended to provide experience for a junior doctor in Paediatric Emergency Medicine at F3/ST1-2 equivalent level. Candidates may wish to use this job to gain evidence of competences when working towards a CESR or looking to enter training posts.

You will work as part of a diverse (both in cultural background and career ambitions) multi-disciplinary team and will take part in a full shift rota in the PED and time is allocated for study, teaching and administration and research in addition to clinical work. All duties will take place in the Paediatric Emergency Department and our Clinical Decisions Unit. With the support of senior clinicians, you will assess new patients attending the department. Patients may present with acute illness, minor and major injury or exacerbation of their chronic condition. You will also provide continued care for patients staying within our own Clinical Decisions Unit.

Candidates must be eligible for their own GMC registration:an active license, ceased license or pending application with the GMC at the point of application. Candidates who do not fit this criteria will not progress through to the shortlisting stage

Interviews are expected to take place between 28th May 2024 and 7th June 2024. Successful candidates will be informed of the date at least 2 weeks in advance.
• To work at the ‘junior doctor’ level in the Paediatric Emergency Department
• Initial assessment of children presenting to the PED
• Review children admitted to our Clinical Decisions Unit for observation or ongoing treatment
• Complete some administrative tasks including discharge paperwork and following up clinical results
• Deliver ‘shopfloor’ and formalised training to the medical students, junior doctors and nursing colleagues
• Take part in audit, quality improvement projects and guideline development
