Job Description
We are currently seeking skilled Roofers, Roof Tilers, and Slaters to join our team. As a Roofer, Roof Tiler, or Slater, you will be responsible for covering roofs and exterior walls with felting, sheeting, slates, tiles, or thatch to provide a waterproof surface. This role requires precision, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of roofing techniques.
Key Responsibilities
- Measure roofs or exterior walls and calculate required amounts of underfelt, tiles, slates, or thatching material.
- Cut wooden battens, felt, and underfelt to the required size.
- Lay and secure underfelt and cover with hot bitumen or other adhesive compound.
- Lay, align, and secure successive overlapping layers of roofing material.
- Seal edges of the roof with mortar and ensure that joints are watertight.
Qualifications and Experience
- No formal academic entry requirements, though GCSEs/S grades are advantageous.
- Entry typically through an approved apprenticeship program or college course in conjunction with on-the-job training.
- NVQ/SVQ Level 2/3 qualification is desirable.
- Building up work experience supplemented with short courses is also accepted.
