Summary


An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as part of the Cancer Information Team as a Cancer Services Data Clerk. This is a part-time position, working 22.5 hours – day/hours to be agreed with the candidate. The post-holder may choose to be based either at Peterborough City Hospital or Hinchingbrooke Hospital, but the ability to work across both sites as well as work from home is essential.

Previous relevant NHS experience and knowledge of Cancer Waiting Times are key for this role as you will be required to collecting accurate data on all cancer patients within the Trust. The role will include the use of Somerset Cancer Register, together with Trust and NHS systems to capture and monitor this data. Full training will be provided but accurate keyboard/computer skills and the ability to work with complex and confidential information are essential.

Essential skills for this role are high level of accuracy and attention to detail, the ability to work to guidance and deadlines and the communication skills to work both within the Cancer Information Team, as well as wider cancer specialities.

To work as part of the Cancer Information Team in collecting accurate data on all cancer patients within the Trust, in line with the national Cancer Waiting Times (CWT) targets.

To work collaboratively with the Cancer Information Team, MDT co-ordinators and data colleagues across the cancer specialties and service units wherever cancer services are provided.

• To accurately collate Cancer Waiting Times (CWT) data and specific items of patient information for each new cancer patient within this Trust, according to the CWT guidance and submission deadlines.
• To use a range of the Trust’s administration systems (Somerset, CareFlow, Etrack, ICE, CRIS), along with web-based NHS systems, to review clinical information and details written and reported within the patient’s electronic record.
• To validate the 28-day Faster Diagnosis Standard breaches for all cancer specialities.
• To ensure a high level of data completeness for COSD (Cancer outcome and Services Dataset) and national audits.
• To carry out Route Cause Analysis reviews for patients that breach the CWT treatment targets, investigating in detail the reasons for occurrence.
• To monitor the shared Cancer Information Team email inbox, being first port of call for cancer data related queries across the Trust, taking the appropriate action, escalating when necessary.
• To attend any meetings/training which may prove beneficial to cancer data collection within the Trust, after consultation with Cancer Waits Compliance Manager. It may be that appropriate meetings/training may be off-site at other locations within the system.
• To be responsible for learning, developing and maintaining the level of required knowledge of cancer related terminology.
• To be responsible for keeping up-to-date with national CWT targets and related guidance.
• To be familiar with and abide by the Data Protection Act 1998 at all times.
