Summary


A skilled Network Technician to join a dynamic team. The successful candidate will contribute to the operation of our Cisco Network infrastructure and configure Layer 2 LAN Switching, analyse Identity Services Engine (ISE), Wireless LAN Controller 9800, SolarWinds, and DNA Centre. The role will manage escalated tickets in an ISTM tool aligned by your Line Manager; to provide remote assistance to Staff and Users on network connectivity issues; attend Sites to maintain Network hardware in communications rooms; patch Ethernet cables; install UPSs and assist Third Parties. Additionally, the Network Technician will contribute to team tasks, discussions, and Trust-wide projects.

Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Technical Competency:
Proficiency in managing Cisco network infrastructure.
Experience in configuring and maintaining Layer 2 LAN connectivity.
Knowledge of Identity Services Engine (ISE) for network access control.
Familiarity with Wireless LAN Controller 9800 for wireless network management.
Ability to utilize SolarWinds for network monitoring and troubleshooting.
Competency in utilizing DNA Centre for network management and automation.

2. Ticket Management:
Manage escalated tickets in an Incident, Service, Transition, and Escalation Management (ISTM) tool aligned with your Line Manager's guidance.

3. User Support:
Attend site to assist Staff, Users and Third Parties on Network troubleshooting.
Provide remote assistance to Staff and users to resolve network connectivity issues efficiently.

4. Infrastructure Maintenance:
Attend communications rooms to maintain network hardware, including Interruptible Power Supplies (UPS).
Perform patching of Ethernet cables as required to ensure Network Connectivity.

5. Third-Party Collaboration:
Assist third-party vendors and partners as needed to support network-related activities.

6. Team Collaboration:
Contribute to team tasks, discussions, and Trust-wide projects to enhance network operations and efficiency

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
To maintain and project a professional image on behalf of the Trust being courteous at all times.
Ensure that service requests are responded to inline with the agreed SLA (Service Level Agreements) and escalation parameters.
Maintain manufacturer accredited levels of competence in the technical areas for which you are providing primary support. These will be identified to you by the Head of Service Delivery.
To update all incidents assigned to you by the ITT Service Desk in order to provide good data for Incident and Problem Management
To maintain relationships with interfacing business functions and other IT functions
To achieve maximum personal KPI’s
To assist the team in achieving the targets set.
To take responsibility for identifying the operational requirements for efficient and cost-effective network services, having particular regard for the need to ensure that the reliability and resilience of such services is consistent with the clinical and business continuity requirements of the Trust and their providers.
To plan specific network infrastructure installations, maintenance and upgrades which may impact across Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust following the Change Management Procedure. For example to ensure that network infrastructure is in place for the delivery of new IT systems, which will require planning and co-ordination.
To develop, test and improve the performance of the IT Service Continuity, disaster recovery systems and processes and ensure adherence to the processes developed.
To investigate new technologies and advise ITT Strategy and Projects on how the Trusts Network security can be improved.
To manage the provision of appropriate intrusion detection and prevention systems to identify and prevent ongoing and developing threats to the availability and performance of the Network Infrastructure.
To develop and enforce the Trusts Network Security Policy.
To define best practices and protocol in network system development and design.
To be aware of, and to adhere to, all Trust policies and procedures.
To ensure the provision of hardware / software to identify performance issues and improve the design and configuration of the Network infrastructure, and to manage the resolution of any network issues
To ensure all Network infrastructure is maintained to an appropriate level to ensure the development, availability and security of the Network infrastructure.
To manage the provision of network services within the Trust, in particular:
to consult with, and advise where appropriate, the Senior Technical Specialist Manager on the design of any significant extension to, or modification of, the Trust's LAN;
to collaborate with the Deputy Head of ITT Strategy and Projects, and external contractors as and when appropriate, in reviewing the networks design by implementing new networking technologies to ensure that LAN is fit for the business needs;
to carrying out of site-surveys (where appropriate) as an essential pre-requisite to any major extensions to, or modifications of, the Trust's LAN;
liaising with external contractors on the implementation (as to timescales, to budget and specification) of all extensions to, or modifications of, the Trust's LAN;
the maintenance (including preventative maintenance where appropriate), repair and upgrading of all LAN equipment;
To plan, develop, implement, document and review procedures and processes to improve ‘third level’ technical functionality. and store in an easily accessible central repository.
To keep the IT hardware asset register up to date with all network devices.
To contribute to I.T projects as and when appropriate.
To carry out periodical audits of Trust’s infrastructure.
To maintain an up to date awareness of applications in use within the Trust.
To contribute, to the Technical Team's "out-of-hours" support programme.
To maintain an up-to-date awareness of IT technologies and developments. This may involve attending seminars, training events and reading relevant journals and technical documentation.
Ensure compliance with Health & Safety obligations within own spheres of responsibility.
Ensure compliance with, and enforce the Information Governance legislation (e.g. Data Protection Act 1998 and the Computer Misuse Act 1998) at all times.
Provide senior technical support for the trusts clinical systems as a 3rd line escalation point.

EXPERIENCE:
Have an extensive knowledge in all Cisco Networking technologies including Switching, Wireless LAN, Voice and Network Monitoring solutions.

Significant experience of remote administration.
Solarwinds experience

Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field preferred.
Cisco certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP) highly desirable.
Proven experience in network administration and support.
Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
Proactive attitude towards learning new technologies and methodologies.
