Today’s public library is more than a collection of books. It’s hub for community activities, a place to access digital technology, and a gateway to reading, information and wellbeing. All of which means today’s library staff need skills that are much more community focused. Today’s staff are inspiring, imaginative and they come from all walks of life. Could you be one of them?
The successful candidate will be a friendly and confident person who is happy to work in a customer facing role. You will be organised and comfortable in assisting customers to issue and return books and tidying shelves in alphabetical and numerical order. You will also assist with ad hoc library activities as required.
Daily you will be interacting with customers, completing tasks to a deadline and knowing when to refer customer questions to an appropriate senior colleague. No one day is the same and having a positive and flexible attitude is important to this role.
This role requires you to file alphabetically and numerically in order. An awareness of basic technology, word, smart phones, tablets for example, maybe of use. No formal qualifications are required.
These are exciting times in the library service and this role allows you to play a pivotal role in helping to provide a welcoming environment for our customers.
