A great opportunity has arisen for a Fire Safety Advisor to join our Compliance Team here at the West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, to provide the necessary support and guidance to embed fire safety matters across the Trust.

The post holder will join a dynamic and skilled team which provides fundamental assistance to clinical and non-clinical teams in understanding and implementing all fire safety legal and statutory requirements.

We are seeking individuals with a proven track record in handling fire safety across large complex estates, providing professional expertise and service.

Experience in the correct Standards, Regulations and Guidelines is essential. The successful candidate will hold the position of the Trusts Fire Safety Adviser in accordance with the duties and requirements of; Healthcare Technical Memorandums and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (RRO).
• Acting as West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (“the Trust”)’s Deputy Fire Safety lead and assist the Fire Safety Manager with all projects and day to day operational matter to ensure that all proposed new, upgrading fire alarm/detection systems comply with current standards and regulations prior to tendering and installation.
• Acting as the deputy professional lead expert supporting the Fire Safety Manager, by providing advice, guidance, support, and assistance on matters relating to fire safety management.
• Assisting the Fire Safety Manager in ensuring the Trust is compliant with its legal and statutory requirements and that all fire safety regulations under current codes of practice are addressed across a complex and multi-site organisation.
• Deputising for the Fire Safety Manager in their absence and be able to undertake all of their responsibilities as far as reasonably practical. This will include attending meetings that apply to both day-to-day operational needs, and capital projects.
• Assisting the Fire Safety Manager to lead, provide expert specialist and professional fire safety information for all capital projects, office, and other moves, provide advice to other clients/partners.
• Producing and delivering training presentations in fire safety for NHS and contractual staff, (appropriate to their responsibilities) in liaison with the Trust Fire Safety Manager and Training department.

• Produce monthly/quarterly/annual reports on fire safety and fire alarm activations for; Trust Board, Fire Safety Improvement Group, Health & Safety Committee and DoH.
• Be responsible for the day-to-day management of fire safety throughout the Trust and ensure the Trust statutory requirements are met.
• Monitor the provision and maintenance of fire doors, shutters, and other structures.
• Undertake Fire Safety Risk Assessments and Fire Safety Audits as part of the requirements of the Regulatory reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
• Develop and continually monitor and improve the fire prevention and response systems as appropriate. This is particularly important in areas of high fire risk.
• Be responsible for the continuing evaluation, space and monitoring of the fire alarm testing system undertaken by the Trust’s contractor, liaising with the FM supplier team directly or via the deputy.
• Act as the Trust’s Fire Safety lead, when the Fire Safety Manager is unavailable, for capital projects and all other projects and day to day operational matters to ensure that all proposed new, upgrading fire alarm/detection systems comply with current standards and regulations prior to tendering and installation.
• Attend regular meetings with project managers to ensure that, on project closure, the fire risk assessment is in place and statement is in place signing off the area as fit for purpose, building regulations approval and compliance with the RRO.
• Attend regular meetings with divisional leads for fire and clients/users and to address any fire safety related issues raised.
• Assist the responsible lead as associate author of the Trust fire policy implementation and development of fire management & prevention service policy, service development, within directorate and the Trust and implementation of robust and effective fire safety protocols, procedures and action plans.
• Be on-call out-of-hours (on a rota basis with the Trust Fire Safety Manager) in the event of confirmed fire calls and provide an out-of-hours emergency response that meets performance targets within organisational requirements (Subject to change).
