As part of Library and Information Services, the Department works closely with our Library and Business Improvement Services partners. Our main purpose is to deliver excellent services to our students and staff, through the provision of User Support, IT Infrastructure and Corporate Information services. Through our connections with Universities across Wales, we take a collaborative approach to learning and developing the services and systems we support. The team of approximately 50 staff supports around 1,000 staff and 20,000 students, both on campus and across the world.
As we transition to the Cloud, the software developer role will be supporting this move and will help in implementing modern coding practices to our existing applications; ensuring they are maintainable, resilient and secure. The work will be largely Cloud based utilising Azure and .Net 8, so an excellent opportunity to learn Azure development skills.
We’re passionate about development at Cardiff Met and we’re looking to speak with candidates who share our vision and can support us creating an outstanding student experience.
What you’ll do – key duties
• Implement scalable, high quality, secure and high-performance in-house applications through systems analysis, specifications, designing, programming, testing, deployment, user training and documentation.
• Undertake helpdesk support for supported applications to resolve any queries and problems, and liaising with software suppliers and users regarding their day-to-day system queries.
• Collaborate with relevant users to ensure effective integration of applications to eliminate duplication of data entry, where possible, using adopted integration standards and middleware.
• Provide user documentation, training and training material in the use of information systems.
• Liaising with external software suppliers such as Ellucian and MHR in relation to product changes and enhancements to ensure these are compatible with other application systems.
• Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of IT developments generally and software analysis, design and programming tools. Evaluate their application in higher education by undertaking training, attending workshops and online seminars.
• Attend corporate systems user forums, seminar, conferences, workshops and staff development training to learn and acquire new skills. This will involve over-night stay and may last for several days.
• Due to the nature of this role, you will be required to attend team planning sessions, meetings etc. and this will require working from campus. Outside of these times, you will be able to utilise home working to suit.
What you’ll bring – essential experience & strengths
• Good knowledge and competency in business analysis and design methodology.
• Ability to design technical solutions to meet strategic and business requirements.
• MS SQL and Microsoft.NET Core/Framework (ASP.NET & C#.NET).
• Willingness and ability to learn new skills to meet new, diverse and changing business requirements.
• Willingness and ability to undergo further internal/external development and training as and when required.
