The Critical Care Outreach Nursing Lead will be a significantly autonomous professional clinical manager, responsible to the Trust for clinical services within the Critical Care Outreach teams.



The post holder will have operational and strategic responsibility for the Critical Care Outreach teams across MSE to ensure business plans, budgets, workforce, and staff development are in place to deliver quality of service for the division and the Trust.

The Critical Care Outreach Nursing Lead will be an expert practitioner who will advise, work alongside and supervise clinical staff within the Critical Care outreach service to support and develop individuals in their day-to-day practice with a focus on the critical care needs of patients and staff.

• To operationally lead the Critical Care Outreach and to provide advanced clinical expertise, knowledge and skills utilising clinical judgement skills and decision making in the care and management of acutely unwell patients.
• To lead and participate in all variety of clinical emergencies, such as NEWS calls, medical emergencies, and cardiac arrest calls, as well as assisting in the provision of level 2/3 care outside of the Critical Care Unit.
• To lead and innovate nursing, allied health care professional & medical practice in the specialty of Critical Care Outreach
• To ensure all Trust staff are best prepared to manage life threatening emergencies encountered during their work
• To be a highly visible and proactive leader acting as a clinical resource and ensuring the sustained delivery of high standards of nursing care and service delivery
• To take responsibility for own evidence-based practice and to implement and add to the body of knowledge that supports clinical practice related to acutely unwell patients within the Trust, nationally and internationally.
• To lead on and promote educational strategies for professional groups regarding the assessment, care, interventions and management of the deteriorating patient, patients who are acutely unwell, and patients who have been recently discharged from the Critical Care Unit and to assist the Critical Care Team with patients who have critical care rehabilitation needs.
• To lead on and assist in the facilitation, organization and provision of education and training on the deteriorating patient.
• To have a role with the Trust Quality Improvement team, leading QI initiatives within Critical Care and the wider remit of Outreach service
• To be responsible for exploring current practice, identifying areas for development, and planning the appropriate change using current evidence to evaluate outcomes
• To be responsible for the quality of the patients’ environment and lead on facilitating changes which improve the patient’s experience
• To play a key operational role and maintain a proactive approach to managing patient flow through the service. The post holder will deliver an 30% clinical component to their role and 70% related to leadership and management, education, and research.

• To maintain clinical credibility by acting regularly as a clinical practitioner in own area of expertise.
• To play a key operational role in monitoring patient outcome within the service, ensuring measures flagged from benchmarking data are embedded in clinical practice and managed proactively on a daily and strategic basis.
