An interesting opportunity to join the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Department of Clinical Technology (DCT) as part of the Electronic Patient Records (EPR) Team. This is a new role recognising the increased requirements for future NHS resilience. The successful candidate will deputise for the Medical Devices IM&T System Specialist. This is a dual role that will support the specialist clinical and technical services for preventative maintenance providing specialist knowledge to their team leader and support the development of EPR within RCH.

The post-holder will be a self-motivated person with a broad range of training and experience on a variety of complex medical equipment. Candidates with an appropriate level of experience in maintenance of electro-mechanical equipment in other sectors/industries will also be considered.

This is a full-time post working 37.5 hours per week.

Deputise for the Medical Devices IM&T System Specialist during periods of absence and at request concerning all EPR related requests.

Ensure that the medical device maintenance KPIs for the team are achieved and maintained above the minimum requirement.

To utilise core and specialist skills to provide day-to-day technical/clinical support for the organisation and other Health Care providers within the equipment management service.

To organise the Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM), service and repair of the specialist area, and meet medical device maintenance turnaround times.

Ensure complex Clinical equipment operates and performs effectively, practically, and safely with minimum downtime to a high standard.

To work as part of a multi-skilled technical support team, providing essential and specialised skills.

To be the lead specialist for complex electrical, electronic, and mechanical medical devices.

The post may involve direct and indirect contact with critically ill patients where tact, diplomacy, discretion, and confidentiality are paramount.

Out-of-hours and weekend on-call duties can be expected as part of the responsibilities of this position.

Lead for the specific core process(es) required to maintain our Quality Management System, maintain team KPIs, and achieve turnaround times.

Performs diagnostic and fault-finding procedures on malfunctioning medical equipment, working to the component level where possible, including those beyond the scope of manufacturers' supplied information, and reporting potentially hazardous symptoms and faults to colleagues and the Team Leader as appropriate.

Performs calibration, quality control and functional checks, often using complex test equipment, on patient-critical medical equipment to ensure compliance with manufacturer's specifications

Capable of concentration when working with miniature or delicate components whilst able to deal with requests for urgent repairs

Source the best price components from approved suppliers, complying with OEM and Quality System requirements.

Updating and maintaining the Trust Asset management database.

Leads training sessions periodically for staff in their area of specialist knowledge

Provides specialist technical support for specific clinical disciplines.

Assists in negotiating, specifying, and reviewing contracts with external suppliers for services and equipment as required.

Prioritise and manage own work following policies and competing service demands. Propose changes to own working practices and the quality system to promote efficiency.
