Summary


This is an exciting opportunity for a person with relevant community experience to join our service focussing on pulmonary rehabilitation.

The Community Respiratory service is an integrated team of physios, nurses and support staff who deliver pulmonary rehab, COPD optimisation, respiratory virtual ward, home oxygen and respiratory physiotherapy for people out of hospital. That may be in clinics, community venues or peoples homes.

The pulmonary rehabilitation service have funding to expand our team to allow us to support more patients to benefit from the service as well as support us towards accreditation.

This could be an excellent opportunity for a current band 3 looking to gain further experience andwe would be happy to consider secondment applications (please note you should discuss this with your current manager).

This post will primarily focus on pulmonary rehabilitation classes which are provided in a range of venues across North East Essex, however due to the overall aims of the team and to support effective team working, you may be asked to carry out home visits to patients for assessment/review within your scope of skills.

Due to the locations the service runs from, and need to take equipment a car driver and access to a car for use during the work day (business use insurance) is necessary.



You will be key to supporting our waiting list management. You should have skills in engaging with people and putting them at ease, and motivational skills. At times this requires a problem solving/asset based approach to helping people overcome barriers to pulmonary rehabilitation. As some of this will be by phone you should be confident in communicating effectively via phone as well as in person and in written form.

You should have a good grasp of the principles of pulmonary rehabilitation and be familiar with, & able to discuss how to apply, the British Thoracic society guidelines for pulmonary rehabilitation. This is an exciting time for the service as we review and improve it to meet the standards for accreditation.

To assist in the quality monitoring of the service you will also need to be competent with IT skills to be able to take the lead on our National Audit of Respiratory programme data entry and report running and exporting. You will also be required to assist with note taking in meetings, and document management to support accreditation.

Currently the service runs 9am-5pm but due to expanding our pulmonary rehab offer to meet the needs of the local population, please be aware that there may be requirement to work evenings (anticipated to finish before 8pm) during the length of this contract. We roster ahead so this will be planned. We would also be prepared to consider working patterns of full or short days through negotiation for the right candidate.
