The Medical Equipment Library Team Leader will contribute to the day-to-day management of the Medical Equipment Library and the development and implementation of Medical Equipment Management within the Trust to ensure the delivery of customer focused, cost effective and efficient services.

They will be responsible for ensuring the prompt delivery and collection of equipment to clinical areas and maintaining records re the same. They will work under the supervision of the Chief Medical Engineer. They will assist with on-going audit of library procedures and compliance with medical device training. Provide monthly equipment loan reports to the Chief Medical Engineers and Medical Engineering Manager
• The Medical Equipment Library (MEL) Team Leader will contribute to and support the day-to-day management of the Equipment Library under the supervision of the Chief Medical Engineer. They will contribute to the development and implementation of Medical Equipment Management within the Trust to ensure the delivery of customer focused, cost effective and efficient services.
• To be responsible for the prompt delivery and collection of medical devices which are issued on loan to wards and departments.
• To manage weekly stock takes and order all MEL Consumables via the Oracle Procurement Systems; ensuring all goods are receipted upon arrival and stored in an organised filing system.
• To organise/update monthly rosters, splitting shifts between MEL staff and mitigate any annual leave/sickness.
• To attend meetings (as and when required) regarding upgrades of MEL devices, ensuring effective communication is maintained between MEL and the Trust upon roll out of new equipment.
• To chair monthly MEL Team Meetings, assisting with the meeting papers.
• To liaise with the Contracts Team, organising visit dates for external contractors to attend site and service any devices on contract. Ensure all serviceable equipment is available for the agreed dates.
• Maintain effective communications with Equipment Library, Medical Engineering and Clinical staff.
• To create and update weekly trackers for certain (high usage) equipment and reporting them to management and escalate any stock depletions.

• To liaise with key stakeholders regarding Renasys TOUCH device loans and arrange for the issue and return of loans from the Community setting, alongside Transport Services.
• To work outside normal working hours to suit the needs of the service/Trust when required.
• To assist with the organisation of medical device training and liaison with library users on equipment issues and problem solving.
• To assist with on-going audit of library procedures and compliance with medical device training.
• To carry out routine safety / function testing on equipment when appropriately trained.
• To maintain equipment records and record data necessary for the effective operation of the equipment tracking and management system.
• To develop and maintain procedures for the management of library equipment and the production of support materials to ensure compliance within the library team.
• To create reports, ensuring all Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are met and maintained within MEL.
• To attend training as required to further personal and service development.
• To be aware of and comply with relevant safety regulations, codes of practice and standards concerning the handling, decontamination and administration of medical devices.
• Work within and support Trust and Atlas’s Departmental Policies and Procedures covering aspects of quality and Health & Safety.
• To ensure equipment/devices are decontaminated in accordance with Trust Policy.
• To contribute to Trust risk management and quality development by participating in initiatives to raise awareness.

The Medical Equipment Library Team Leader should:
• Possess a suitable temperament to permit a calm approach under all conditions of emergency.
• Be able to maintain relationships within the Equipment Library Team, Medical Equipment Management team and with all levels of staff employed within the Atlas and the Trust.
• Be prepared at all times to take a responsible attitude to the work and requirements of the health care service.
• Possess the ability to work unsupervised and exercise the initiative and responsibility required to maintain systems and equipment in the optimum functional standards.
